A leading construction consultancy based in North England is seeking a Carbon Manager to oversee carbon management strategies in infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing carbon assessments, collaborating with clients and stakeholders, and ensuring compliance with PAS 2080 standards. Candidates should have strong analytical skills and experience with Life Cycle Assessments. This role supports the consultancy's sustainable initiatives, aiming to contribute to clients' net zero objectives.
The opportunity
To join an established and successful team of 100 sustainability professionals to oversee carbon management on behalf of our client base in infrastructure. This role is base in the North of England.
The Carbon Manager will lead the development and implementation of carbon management strategies across major infrastructure programmes. This role is pivotal in driving whole life carbon reduction, ensuring compliance with PAS 2080, and embedding sustainability into design, construction, and operational phases. The successful candidate will collaborate with internal teams, clients, and supply chain partners to deliver measurable carbon outcomes and support the client’s net zero ambitions.
The successful candidate will join the Responsible Business team to take accountability for client-facing embodied carbon consultancy services and support team growth. Successful candidates will also contribute significantly to Mace’s corporate Pursue a Sustainable World programme and help to upskill colleagues and industry partners on innovations, best practices and legislative changes.
Your responsibilities will include
· Lead carbon management and planning: develop and maintain carbon management plans across infrastructure projects, including baselining, monitoring, and reporting in line with PAS 2080.
· Support development and delivery of whole life caron assessments: conduct and oversee whole life carbon assessments using approved tools (e.g., RSSB Rail Carbon Tool), ensuring alignment with client requirements and industry standards.
· Carry out stakeholder engagement and collaboration: interface with project partners (e.g., Network Rail, local authorities) to identify carbon reduction opportunities and embed carbon culture across disciplines
· Establish and facilitate carbon leadership within programmes: for example, the facilitation of carbon focus groups to drive continuous improvement and ensure strategic alignment with net zero goals.
· Build client capability to leave a lasting legacy of effective carbon management: identify carbon training needs and support development across project teams, promoting a carbon-conscious culture and technical excellence.
· Advise clients and communicate: how to reduce embodied carbon across single fit-out and new build projects, as well as strategic approaches appropriate for large portfolio pipelines of future works
· Identify solutions that deliver actual (vs theoretical) and measurable carbon savings
About you
· You have attained – or are working towards – full member status of IEMA/ISEP.
· You have knowledge and experience delivering Life Cycle Assessments and Embodied Carbon across the design and construction project cycle stages.
· You have competency in LCA tools for example One Click LCA
· You have strong technical, quantitative, and analytical skills.
· You have working knowledge of PAS2080 and are familiar with tools such as the RSSB Rail Carbon Tool and whole life carbon calculators.
· You demonstrate the ability to think laterally and adapt previous experience and solutions to new project/programme contexts
