CAR-T Clinical Nurse Specialist

This is an exciting opportunity for a nurse with an interest in haematology to join the cellular therapy team. The post holder will be managed and by the band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist, cellular therapies (CAR-T) and supported by the Lead Ambulatory Haematology Nurse. The post holders will also contribute to co-ordinating the treatment pathways for patients requiring CAR-T and Haematopoietic stem cell transplants within the Cellular Therapy Program at UHL, ensuring the provision of effective and specialised care to this patient group whilst working in close conjunction with the cellular therapy consultant team, lead haematology ambulatory nurse and apheresis co-ordinators.

Main duties of the job

To contribute in the development and co-ordination of pathways for patients undergoing autologous/allogeneic or cellular therapies such as Car-T.

Responsible for on-going development and training of the policies,procedures, protocols and guidelines. You are accountable for safe, effective clinical practice working as part of a defined team, supporting team performance, ensuring efficient and effective use ofphysical and human resources, and will also provide / deliver a range of educational and training packages to health care staff and patients

To work as a clinical nurse specialist and effectively deliver an expert nursing service within the field of cellular (CAR-T) therapy.

To manage a caseload of patients/clients referred for cellular (CAR-T) therapy and to act as a resource for patients, donors and their families, the multidisciplinary team and primary healthcare teams.

Support the accreditation process to maintain JACIE standards and actively participate in the quality management programme

Job responsibilities

Ensure that the delivery of care to own patients and for all patients when in charge meet the standards determined by the Standards for Better Health.

To ensure continuity of a high standard of evidence based nursing care, assessing health, health related and nursing needs of patients, their families and other carers by identifying and initiating appropriate steps for effective care. This can include:

Managing a patient caseload

Ordering and coordinating diagnostic tests

Making and receiving referrals

Setting up and running nurse led clinics where indicated

Take due regard of the importance of the effect and consequence of the ward /care environment regarding its physical, psychological and social effects on patients and care delivery.

To regularly review those clinical notes of patients requiring imminent admission, ensuring all assessments, diagnostic investigation and test results are up-to-date and in place to ensure a smooth admission process

Accountable for administration and custody of medicines according to the Trust Policy, including safe administration of medicines, controlled drugs, intravenous drugs, transfusion of blood and blood products

Promote, develop and implement patient and public involvement activities in the ward area, leading to service improvement.

Ensure that self and team members always act to provide a personalised service to patients in accordance with agreed standards and promote quality, diversity and rights.

Demonstrate safe, appropriate practice and specialist nursing advice using up todate knowledge and evidence. Make person centred, evidence-based judgements in partnership with others involved in the care process ensuring high quality care
