Job description

There are two positions available – 1x North & 1x South Powys

About the role:

Plan and supervise operational delivery for resurfacing teams and contractors. Ensure works are undertaken effectively and efficiently to deadlines and budgets.

Record work, produce detailed measures and invoices.

Liaise with Highways Inspectors around future capitalfunded schemes e.g. surface dressing programmes, capital resurfacing schemes etc.

Ensure health and safety is adhered to by supervising the workforce and contractors, producing risk assessments, construction phase plans, method statements and safe systems of work. Review and improve processes, supervise sites, ensure environmental regulations, and processes are adhered to, and site safety is maintained.

About you:

  • Experience of scheduling and programming works and supervising staff.
  • Ability to deal with the public to defuse potentially difficult situations.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of the specification, requirements and method of measurement for highways maintenance activities.
  • IT skills e.g. Windows based systems, mapping systems, finance systems etc.
  • Ability to work under pressure and problem solve situations in real time.

What you will do:

  • Prepare daily, weekly, monthly and annual programmes of work for the delivery of capital funded schemes that meet the HGSS service plans and priorities.
  • Through effective supervision, ensure correct specification and quantities of various materials, appropriate plant, contractors and equipment are in place in a timely manner to progress works efficiently. Ensure that staff resources are properly organised and targeted efficiently to meet demands and priorities within budgets.
  • Undertake and review risk assessments, produce working Construction Phase Plans and develop work method statements and safe systems of work as required by HSE, Construction & Design Regulations and internal health and safety policies. Communicate these plans effectively to the operational staff on a daily, and weekly basis, and ensure that operational staff training is appropriate and up to date.
  • Work with Works Supervisors to organise manning to ensure efficient delivery of programmes.
