Job summary

Staffordshire County Council is seeking a finance professional to join the central Capital team. You will help track forecasts of expenditure and funding for capital projects, maintain the capital grants register and manage processes for budgeting and monitoring.

The role also focuses on fixed assets, maintaining the asset register, processing revaluations, impairments and disposals, and monitoring capital receipts and developer contributions, with strong emphasis on compliance and insight.

Qualifications

• Membership of a CCAB body preferably CIPFA (or AAT member with at least 2 years post-qualification).
• Experience in Local Government Finance, incl. preparation and analysis of financial statements.
• Knowledge of statutes, codes of practice and rules in Local Government Finance.
• Experience of preparing statutory returns and/or grant claims.
• Experience analysing complex financial information and presenting results.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Co-ordinate timely completion and submission of statutory returns and grant claims to maximise income.
• Create and manage a schedule for grant claims and statutory returns, allocating staff resources.
• Liaise with Finance Partners to offer advice on potential external grants and maximise resources.
• Oversee collection of statutory information required for Government Returns and forward for sign-off.
• Support in preparation of estimates by providing intelligence on grant claims in a timely manner.
