The Capital Equipment Procurement Manager is responsible for planning, budgeting, strategic sourcing, supply chain management, critical supplier performance management, and stakeholder management for OFCI equipment in the mechanical category. This role develops long-term business strategies aligned with QTS stakeholders, executives, and procurement leaders to drive results that support business goals and enhance QTS’s market position. The role requires strategic thinking, strong negotiation skills, an in-depth understanding of HVAC systems, and effective supplier relationship management. The manager reports to the Senior Manager, Capital Equipment Procurement for mechanical equipment.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Analyzing capital plans to determine equipment and services needed for OFCI budget and procurement plans, adjusting for sales projections.
- Providing accurate cost and schedule data to Development Program Managers for budget approval and project planning.
- Offering weekly procurement status updates, progress reports, and recommendations to support executive decision-making.
- Evaluating new critical infrastructure technologies to balance cost, availability, reliability, and efficiency.
- Managing category spend, researching supply markets and trends, deploying strategic plans, and tracking KPIs.
- Ensuring compliance with QTS policies and continuously improving procurement processes and systems.
- Collaborating with global procurement teams to align category strategies.
- Identifying and implementing strategies to improve procurement speed, quality, and cost-efficiency.
- Assessing risks, managing supply continuity, developing contingency plans, and establishing risk mitigation strategies.
- Leading category management activities within assigned spend categories.
- Developing RFP packages and leading sourcing events to secure value, mitigate risks, and meet performance requirements.
- Supporting sales with competitive NRC costing for customer deals.
- Developing construction contracts to support projects and timelines.
- Monitoring supply chain conditions and ensuring timely OFCI equipment delivery.
- Resolving technical and commercial issues, engaging experts, and escalating as needed.
- Distributing up-to-date design standards to suppliers.
- Obtaining OFCI equipment submittals for design and process approval.
- Managing inventory locations and recommending reallocation actions to optimize costs.
- Developing KPIs to measure supplier performance.
- Ensuring contractual obligations are met and benefits realized.
- Leading business reviews and stakeholder meetings.
- Engaging with site teams, suppliers, and finance to resolve issues and improve processes.
- Traveling to sites, OEM facilities, and industry events to build relationships.
- Providing ad-hoc support for sourcing difficult equipment and parts.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Procurement, Supply Chain, Engineering, Business, Management, Operations, Finance, or Construction Management, or equivalent experience.
- At least five years of relevant experience in sourcing, procurement, project management, or engineering.
- Experience in developing long-range sourcing plans to optimize costs and meet internal requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Eight or more years in global supply chain, project management, category management, strategic sourcing, mechanical engineering, or vendor management.
- Experience in data centers or critical infrastructure, including electrical and mechanical equipment, construction, and professional services.
- Experience leading organizational change initiatives.
