An established industry player is seeking a passionate Community Warden to engage the local community at a reclaimed wildlife site. In this role, you will lead outreach events, educate the public about conservation, and inspire others to appreciate the importance of biodiversity. Your expertise in ecological matters and experience in community engagement will be vital as you work closely with partners to promote awareness and action. Hours: 18.75 hours/week
Contract type: Fixed term (to 31 March 2027)
Salary: £15,728.71 (£31,457.42 FTE)
Location: Pitsea, South Essex (RSPB South Essex Marshes Office)

Buglife is recruiting a Community Warden for Canvey Wick, a former oil refinery that has been reclaimed by nature. This incredible site is now home to thousands of species including the Shrill Carder Bee, Nightingale and Scarce Emerald Damselfly.
Working with our partners, the RSPB and the Land Trust, you will be at the heart of reconnecting the local community with this amazing wildlife site. You will organise community outreach events (like bug hunts, walks, themed educational activities, citizen science, and arts and crafts) and be a spokesperson for one of the most fascinating wildlife sites in the UK.
We are looking for someone who has experience in outreach and engagement, and empowering communities. You’ll know and will have examples of where you’ve worked with different audiences and be able to show how you’ve raised awareness of wildlife and environmental issues before.
