Job summary

University of Salford is seeking an enthusiastic Gardener to join the Landscape Services team within Estates & Facilities. You will perform a broad range of grounds maintenance and horticultural tasks across the campus estate, helping to maintain attractive, safe and sustainable outdoor spaces.

The role involves operating grounds equipment, supporting new landscaping projects, and ensuring high standards in public areas.

Qualifications

• Recognised horticultural, landscaping, grounds maintenance or amenity horticulture qualification (NVQ/C&G/RHS) or equivalent experience.
• PA1/PA6 certificates are advantageous but not required if willing to obtain them.
• Full UK driving licence and ability to drive University vehicles as required.
• Health and safety training and commitment to mandatory training requirements.
• Experience in grounds maintenance within public sector/educational/environment contexts.

Responsibilities

• Grass cutting, hedge trimming, pruning, planting, weed control and general horticultural maintenance.
• Maintain lawns, planting areas, borders and public spaces to a high standard.
• Support landscaping schemes, planting projects, biodiversity initiatives and environmental improvements.
• Safely operate and maintain grounds maintenance machinery, vehicles and equipment.
• Help maintain clean, safe, accessible external areas and work with Estates & Facilities teams.
• Identify defects, hazards and health and safety concerns and report them.
• Support occasional operational, emergency, event and out-of-hours requirements.
