Job description

A bit about us...

Friends of the Lake District is an independent charity and the only membership organisation dedicated to protecting and enhancing Cumbria’s landscapes. We believe that the Lake District offers some of the most spectacular and precious landscapes in England, and we campaign to ensure these landscapes remain tranquil, culturally rich, and environmentally healthy for the benefit of local communities, visitors, and wildlife.

With over 90 years of passion for the Cumbrian landscape, our work has evolved from defensive campaigning to proactively influencing key decision-makers about our landscape's future. Our land ownership has also grown, serving as a source of good practice for our advocacy.

Our work is supported by our members, volunteers, and supporters. As Campaigns Officer, you will inspire and mobilise supporters to back our campaigns and recruit new supporters to amplify their voice.

Joining Friends of the Lake District now is a great opportunity to build on our successes and shape our future.

What about you?

We seek someone passionate about our mission, committed to excellence, and dedicated to our organisation. Your focus will be on designing and delivering campaigns that inspire, mobilise, and influence landscape policy and practice. Creativity in framing issues to gain political traction and engagement from supporters is essential. A commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion should underpin your engagement strategies.

This role requires collaboration across teams, so effective teamwork and communication skills are vital.

As Campaigns Officer, your responsibilities will include:

  1. Supporting the design, delivery, monitoring, and evaluation of impactful campaigns aligned with our Strategic Goals, including:
  2. Facilitating consultations with staff, Trustees, and allies to define campaign objectives.
  3. Analyzing the external political context to identify opportunities and ensure our campaigns add unique value.
  4. Developing creative ideas for campaign actions and engagement tools.
  5. Collaborating with media teams to craft press and social media messages that promote campaign goals.
  6. Regularly reviewing campaign progress and generating reports for monitoring and adjustments.
  7. Building partnerships with local groups, NGOs, and other stakeholders for joint campaigning efforts.
  8. Planning and delivering online and offline events to raise awareness, engage supporters, and generate leads for supporter development.
  9. Working with Fundraising, Volunteering, and Engagement teams to optimize supporter involvement, including donations, volunteering, and participation in campaigns.

This is a supporter-facing role that involves travel to events and occasional work outside normal hours, with time off in lieu provided for evening and weekend work.
