Job description

Join our lifeguard staff team for the Summer of 2025 at Camp Clark! All necessary trainings provided by the YMCA prior to working.

Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Aquatics Director or Designee, the Head Lifeguard is responsible for the safety and well-being of participants using the Old Colony Y aquatic facility.

Job Functions

  • Arrive on deck, in uniform, ready to open the pool promptly at the scheduled time.
  • Greet members courteously with a smile.
  • Assist in planning, organizing, and implementing aquatic events, including lap swim and water walking incentives.
  • Monitor lap swimmers and designate lanes as required.
  • Explain pool procedures to participants and enforce all posted rules.
  • Provide friendly and courteous service to all members, clients, and volunteers.
  • Report accidents and incidents to the supervisor using appropriate forms.
  • Wear proper lifeguard attire as requested.
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings.
  • Secure all pool doors at the end of your shift unless relieved by another certified staff member.
  • Communicate program and membership promotions to participants and members.

Facility/Housekeeping Responsibilities

  • Test water for chemical balance, record results, and report issues immediately.
  • Check safety equipment at the start of each shift and report problems.
  • Follow daily maintenance schedules, including cleaning tasks and reporting issues.
  • Maintain cleanliness in the pool area.

Requirements

  • Minimum 16 years old.
  • 1-3 years of related experience.
  • Current Lifeguard certification (Red Cross, YMCA, or Ellis) and certifications in CPR, First Aid, AED, and O2. YMCA will provide training if necessary.
  • Must cross-over to Ellis Lifeguard Certification within 30 days and YMCA cross-over within 3 months.
  • YUSA or Ellis Lifeguard Trainer preferred.
  • Ability to perform all physical tasks of a Lifeguard, including lifting an adult male from the pool.
  • Complete program-specific and employee orientation training by the required timeline.
