Camp Counselor / Female - Camp Heart O' Hills

Job Summary

Plans, implements, coordinates, and supervises an assigned group of children and youth; promotes quality of programs and safety of campers at all times; provides guidance and role modeling to campers; promotes and stimulates camper participation; coordinates and leads campers through their daily schedule ensuring punctuality and responsibility; supervises campers during unscheduled program time and evenings; ensures compliance with camp rules and regulations at all times.

Essential Functions

  1. Participates in regular camp worship meetings and times of prayer.
  2. Leads devotional activities with campers in cabin.
  3. Prays with campers as needed and accompanies campers who come to the alter during the closing worship meeting at the end of the camp session.
  4. Supervises and organizes an assigned group of campers during scheduled activities and unscheduled blocks of time in cooperation with camp rules and regulations.
  5. Promotes and stimulates participation of campers to ensure a pleasant camp experience.
  6. Participates in regular camp worship meetings. Reads devotional to campers in cabin when necessary.
  7. Participates in times of prayer.
  8. Performs necessary ministry functions, such as presenting approved devotional material to campers, praying with campers, or leading in Christian songs.
  9. Supervises cabin clean up and work details.
  10. Coordinates and leads youth through their daily schedule ensuring punctuality and responsibility.
  11. Lives with a group of campers and helps each camper adjust and get to know other campers and camp life.
  12. Interprets and maintains camper compliance with camp rules and safety and health regulations.
  13. Assists with program activities and other activities as assigned working closely with the program staff.
  14. Assists with seekers ministry when required.
  15. Be prepared with rainy day activities as needed.
  16. Inspects fire extinguishers and reports to Head Counselor if any extinguisher has been dispensed.
  17. Makes sure all cleaning solutions are locked up except during use and used only with supervision.
  18. Assures that all beds in cabin have at least 30 inches between sides of beds.
  19. Stays in cabin with campers at night and ensures proper supervision.
  20. Moves with campers to all classes and activities and remains with them unless otherwise noted.
  21. Maintains an incident report book on all campers for each camp session.
  22. Provides constant care for the needs of the campers in an efficient, clean, loving, safe, secure, and healthy manner.
  23. Exhibits control of the campers and displays proper discipline techniques when needed.
  24. Determines appropriate supplies and materials for activities; ensures the campers’ safety in utilizing the same.
  25. Maintains the camp materials in an orderly fashion.
  26. Prepares and maintains up-to-date records and required reports (attendance, development progress, discipline reports, etc.).
  27. Ensures the accountability, security, and safety of children participating in camp activities.
  28. Participates enthusiastically as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and supervise evening programs, special events, overnights, and other all-camp activities.
  29. Keeps personal living quarters neat, clean, and ready for inspection.
  30. May assist in cleaning the cabins, kitchen, tables, floors, etc. in accordance with established sanitary standards.
  31. May assist in preparing and serving snacks and meals; ensures that campers receive nutritional and tasteful food.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  1. Knowledge of the principles and practices of child and youth behavior and development.
  2. Knowledge of the principles and practices of First Aid and C.P.R.
  3. Ability to plan, develop, facilitate, and supervise children and youth programs and activities.
  4. Ability to build and maintain effective mentor relationships with children and youth.
  5. Ability to communicate effectively with campers and camp staff.
  6. Ability to observe camper and staff behavior and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques.
  7. Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid.
  8. Ability to meet attendance requirements.
  9. Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.

Education and Experience

Six months experience teaching child development or youth programs in a church preferred, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Certifications

CPR and First Aid Certification required.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

Some physical requirements of the Camp Counselor position could include endurance, climbing, standing, some bending, stooping, and stretching. Normal range of hearing and eyesight is required.

Additional Information

Camp Staff Orientation will be held 6/10/2025 – 6/15/2025 and participation is required.

The 2025 Summer Camp program will be held 6/16/2025-7/19/2025. If you are unable to work the entire program session, please let us know on your application.
