Job Summary

Prepare, plan, and operate audio/visual equipment for meetings, events, classes, and seminars at the Salvation Army camps. Ensure camp activities are recorded for Salvation Army publications. Capture video and pictures for Salvation Army publications.

Essential Functions

1. Sets up, adjusts, and operates audio/visual equipment for various camp programs, including worship services and concerts.
2. Operates and installs audio/visual equipment.
3. Keeps sound room clean and organized.
4. Reports to Program Director any problems with audio/visual equipment.
5. Secures and locks all audio/visual equipment after each session.
6. Produces a weekly review video for each camp session including all music camps. Produces a staff video and camp promotional video.
7. Instructs camp employees in the selection, use, and design of audio/visual materials, and assists them in the preparation of instructional materials and rehearsal of presentations.
8. Plans and prepares audio/visual teaching aids and methods to be used in camp classes.
9. Performs simple maintenance tasks such as cleaning monitors and lenses and changing batteries and light bulbs.
10. Maintains collections of audio/visual material such as films, video/audio tapes, photographs, and software programs.
11. Ensures campers and staff follow safety procedures.
12. Participates enthusiastically as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and supervise evening programs, special events, overnights, and other all-camp activities and functions.
13. Sits with camper tables during meals and serves as a table monitor when needed.
14. Keeps personal living quarters neat, clean, and ready for inspection.
15. Be available to participate and assist with camp programs and activities as directed by the Camp Director.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

1. Knowledge of media production, communication, dissemination techniques, and methods.
2. Knowledge of electronic equipment and computer hardware software.
3. Knowledge of the principles and practices of modern video production.
4. Ability to build and maintain effective mentor relationships with children.
5. Ability to communicate effectively with campers and camp staff.
6. Ability to perform life-saving techniques, C.P.R., and first aid procedures in emergency situations.
7. Ability to operate digital cameras and video equipment.
8. Ability to communicate and work with groups participating (age and skill levels) and provide necessary instruction to campers and staff.
9. Ability to observe camper and staff behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques.
10. Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity.
11. Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid; must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.
12. Ability to meet attendance requirements.
13. Ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language.

Education and Experience

Two years’ experience in video production preferred, or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

Some physical requirements of the Camp Audio/Visual Specialist position include endurance including climbing, standing, some bending, stooping, and stretching. Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate audio/visual equipment and activities are required. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Must have a willingness to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours delivering a program in the facility available. Operate with daily exposure to the sun and heat and varying environmental conditions.

Additional Information

Camp Staff Orientation will be held 6/10/2025 – 6/15/2025 and participation is required.

The 2025 Summer Camp program will be held 6/16/2025-7/19/2025. If you are unable to work the entire program session, please let us know on your application.
