Job summary

Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is offering a 12-month fixed-term CAMHS training pathway in systemic therapy, with ties to the CYP-IAPT programme. The role combines university study at Exeter two days weekly and clinical work 2–3 days within CAMHS-ED, with potential secondment within CAMHS-ED.

The programme targets building systemic skills with children and families, and starts January 2027; you must register for the course by December 2026.

Qualifications

• Experience with children and adolescents with complex mental health needs in a child-focused multi-agency setting.
• Experience in multi-disciplinary CAMHS teams.
• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate treatment.
• Current professional registration – NMC, HCPC, BPS.
• Qualification in a relevant intervention.
• Up to date with CAMHS legislation and policy.
• Evidence of ongoing professional development.

Responsibilities

• Train within the CYP-IAPT Systemic Therapy programme.
• Deliver systemic interventions for eating disorders or CAMHS-ED with supervision.
• May be based in Newquay with travel to other clinics as needed.
• Study requires attendance at University of Exeter two days a week.

Job overview

We are looking for a committed practitioners who would like to further their studies to train with South West CYP IAPT in systemic Therapy. This is the childrens Eating Disorders Strand. We are offering one place to study on the Systemic Practitioner CYP-IAPT course.

The post will work within CAMHS Eating Disorders delivering evidence based systemic interventions for children & adolescents experiencing difficulties with eating disorders using evidence based family intervention. .

The post is likely to be based in Newquay for the majority of the training but may involve travel between clinics.

The course runs for 1 year, between January & December. This training course is funded by Health Education England, you would be studying at the University of Exeter 2 days a week and working in a children’s mental health service 2-3 days per week. A secondment may be available within CAMHS-ED team.

Main duties of the job

EXPECTED START DATE: 5th January 2027 and candidates will need to register for the course by December 2026

This is a training role within the Child and Young Persons Improving Access to Psychological Therapies Programme (CYP-IAPT). The post-holders will work within Cornwall CAMHS-ED service at Cornwall Partnership Trust, providing systemic interventions whilst undertaking a programme of training for these roles at the University of Exeter.

Systemic therapy explores relationships and involves working with family members and sub-systems to safely explore difficult emotions and thoughts and emotions, to understand each other’s experiences and perspectives. The training and supervisory experience will equip the learners to deliver evidence based systemic interventions in either eating disorders or community CAMHS.

Learners will gain a critical and reflective understanding of the CYP IAPT model of service change, outcome monitoring, and fundamentals of systemic approaches working with children and families.

This clinical practise will complement and enhance the knowledge gained from the university as you will be given the opportunity to learn a range of systemic techniques and interventions under the supervision of highly specialised family and systemic practitioners.
