An exciting opportunity has arisen in the horizon team, Lewisham CAMHS. We are looking for a clinical lead for the Keeping in Touch (KIT) programme.

The KIT programme provides an opportunity to engage with young people and families at an earlier stage in their journey with CAMHS. KIT will offer a range of interventions, information, and support for those waiting for assessment and treatment. Through KIT, we aim to clarify what Lewisham CAMHS offers and what they should expect from us. By starting a dialogue with young people, families, and professionals, we hope to improve their experience and journey whilst in touch with Lewisham CAMHS.

We are seeking a CAMHS Senior Practitioner to support this programme and provide the necessary clinical leadership to respond to the needs of young people, families, and professionals.

Main duties of the job

This role will report to the Clinical Service Lead for Horizon and the Senior Leadership team and will be responsible for:

• Implementing the scopes, objectives, and timelines of the programme, involving all relevant stakeholders.
• Providing clinical leadership and ensuring that the approach of interventions and support is evidence-based, relevant to this programme, and contributes to developing good practice.
• Liaising with the wider CAMHS directorate and external partners to ensure that the programme learns from other initiatives and shares learnings with senior managers.
• Supervising a small team of clinicians and admin support.
• Measuring the programme's performance using appropriate systems, tools, and techniques, including measuring the impact of KIT on the experience and well-being of young people, families, and professionals.
• Providing a review and evaluation report at 6 months of the programme with recommendations for sustainability.
• Reporting and escalating to the Service Manager and Lead Clinician any risks identified that may impact the delivery of the programme.
• Providing culturally appropriate interventions and support to young people and families and being proactive in challenging discrimination while supporting the development of a culturally competent service.

About us

South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust has the largest child and adolescent mental health service in the country and is a national leader. It is made up of five clinical units: National & Specialist, Lewisham, Southwark, Lambeth, and Croydon.

Lewisham has a very high level of social need and mental illness in adults. Children aged 0-19 years number 64,000. Nearly 8% live in single-parent households, and up to 30% of households are without a wage earner. Children from black and ethnic minority groups represent 37% of 0-14 year olds. The number of looked-after children is approximately 480. 20% of children are currently experiencing 3 or more psychosocial difficulties, and 46% of children live in families with three or more risk factors.

Lewisham CAMHS provides a multidisciplinary diagnostic, assessment, treatment, advisory, and consultative service for children and adolescents with emotional and behavioural disorders at high risk or those with more severe and persistent problems suggestive of psychiatric disorder.

Job responsibilities

• Doctorate or MSc level qualification associated with child and adolescent mental health e.g. clinical psychology, family therapy, child psychotherapy, or equivalent with a strong portfolio of post-registration clinical professional development.
• Registered Nurse, OT, psychotherapist, or psychologist.
• Substantive experience of working at a Band 7 level in child and adolescent mental health, including specialist.
• Experience of providing professional support for practitioners, including supervision, appraisal, and recruitment.
• Experience of multi-agency collaboration.
• Advanced knowledge of subjects relevant to child mental health and learning disability, including two or more evidence-based therapies.
• Advanced knowledge of the theory and practice and evidence-base of specialised psychological therapies for children, young people, and families.
• Sound knowledge of policy and legislation and its implications for clinical practice and professional management.
• Sound knowledge of clinical governance frameworks.
• Proven skills in the use of standard and specialised methods of assessment and case management.
• Proven skills in delivering a range of evidence-based interventions with child, parent, and family.
• Ability and skills to work effectively with senior managers and practitioners across agencies, respecting differences and using integrated ways of working which complement the skills of other professionals.

Person Specification

Qualifications

• Doctorate or MSc level qualification associated with child and adolescent mental health e.g. clinical psychology, family therapy, child psychotherapy, or equivalent with a strong portfolio of post-registration clinical professional development.
• First level nursing qualification/registration RMN, RN LD, or RSCN or OT qualification with relevant CAMHS experience.
• Evidence of continuing professional development.
• Additional training in therapeutic skills.
• Management training.

Experience

• Substantive experience of working at a Band 7 level in child and adolescent mental health, including specialist practitioner and clinical performance management work.
• Experience of working with young people with a moderate to severe learning disability, with additional mental health problems and case severity from early intervention through to specialist case management.
• Experience of providing professional support for practitioners, including supervision, appraisal, and recruitment.
• Experience of multi-agency collaboration.
• Experience of health services research, evaluation, and audit, and dissemination through teaching, training, and publication.

Knowledge

• Advanced knowledge of subjects relevant to child mental health and learning disability including two or more evidence-based therapies.
• Advanced knowledge of the theory and practice and evidence-base of specialised psychological therapies for children, young people, and families.
• Sound knowledge of policy and legislation and its implications for clinical practice and professional management.
• Sound knowledge of professional, ethical, and cultural standards relating to work with children, young people, their families, and carers.
• ADOS training and specialist experience in ASD.
• Evidence of skills in research design and methodology, including use of qualitative and quantitative methods.

• Evidence of skills in research design and methodology, including use of qualitative and quantitative methods.

Salary: £61,927 to £68,676 a year inclusive of HCAs.
