Lambeth Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) Spring Team is seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, motivated and experienced CAMHS Practitioner, who has an interest in working with children and adolescents that present with mental health and significant behavioural difficulties.

The Spring Team works closely with the Lambeth local authority at Tier 2 level, offering assessment and brief interventions to children, young people and their families. We are specifically interested in staff with additional training in evidence based therapeutic interventions.

Main duties of the job

You will need to have the ability to deliver a range of interventions for children and young people. Close working relationships with members of the team and partnership agencies e.g. Social Services, Education and others is essential. You must demonstrate an interest in multi-agency and multi-disciplinary work and be familiar with evidence-based practice. There are excellent opportunities for CPD, in service teaching and supervision within the team and the trust.You must be able to work independently and have good clinical/therapeutic and case management skills. Lambeth is an inner city, ethnically diverse community so a good understanding of diversity issues is important.

Lambeth CAMHS employs staff from a variety of disciplines, including creative arts, child psychology, psychiatry, nursing, psychotherapy & family therapy. The service is organised into three sections & delivered from a number of community & hospital sites across the borough. Teams include a generic multidisciplinary Tier 3 services, for Children and Adolescents, as well as a number of specialist teams & services including Youth Offending Team, Children Looked After, Parent and Infant Relationship Service (PAIRS) and the Neurodevelopmental Team.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will be a Care Coordinator responsible for assessing and treating a range of mental health and significant behavioural difficulties in children and young people whom are referred to the team.

You will carry out CAMHS Assessments, Risk Assessments, ADHD Assessments, Care Planning and Treatment with children & young people and their families routinely. You will work under the supervision of Clinical Specialists and Clinical Service Lead of Spring to learn and manage caseloads and situations effectively.

You will work with other CAMHS practitioners in the service from all disciplines. You will be a member of a number of internal and external professional networks to ensure that care plans for individual children and services across agencies are co-ordinated efficiently and effectively. This post is a clinical post and the expectation is that 75% of your time is spent in clinical practice. It is important to note that while Agile Working is policy, you may be required to be face to face every day.

Qualifications

• First level nursing qualification/registration RMN/RSCN/HV/RNLD or First level qualification in OT, social work, or equivalent with related CAMHS experience or First level qualification in art, play, drama or music therapy with related experience in the psychological aspects of caring for children and adolescent with mental health problems/needs, developmental/ learning disability problems. All applicants will require professional registration with a statutory body: the Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC), Social Work England (SWE), The Health And Care Professional's Council (HCPC), Chartered Clinical Psychologists by BPS, ACP or UKCP. (BABCP) Cognitive Behavioural Therapies.
• Training in Clinical Supervision / Nursing Supervisor Training (if appropriate).
• Further post qualifying training and education in working with children and adolescents with mental health problems.

Experience

• Clinical experience working with children and adolescents with mental health problems/needs or clear evidence of transferable skills.
• Working in collaboration with supervisor, service user, carers and MDT in Assessing, Formulating, Planning and Reviewing care.
• Being directly responsible for care delivery / coordination in a community setting.
• A good understanding and some experience of the following: Group, individual and family work, multi-disciplinary work, clinical governance and audit and the process of clinical supervision.
• Experience working with families in a multi-racial urban environment.
• Working with local authority services e.g. Early Help / Social Work Involvement.
• Experience with elements of safeguarding e.g. social care sections and contextual / extra-familial elements.

Knowledge

• A good working knowledge of the following: Mental health disorders in children and adolescents.
• A good working knowledge of Key legislation relevant to CAMHS setting: The Children Act 1989, 2004 and The Mental Health Act 1983, Human Rights Act 1998 and Mental Capacity Act 2005
• A good working knowledge of Assessment and management of risk when it occurs and works with families, colleagues and external bodies to mitigate these.
• A good working knowledge of the principles of clinical governance and practice.
• A good working knowledge of the principles underlying confidentiality and information sharing.
• Evidence based knowledge of assessment, treatment and case management.
• Working knowledge of contemporary Research regarding treatments in CAMHS.

Skills and Training

• Ability to work therapeutically with the client group, using a range of therapeutic interventions
• Strong IT skills being proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite / 365 or equivalent.
• Evidence of using patient journey systems with data entry requirements.
• Utilises and demonstrates reflective practice in day to day working and supervision
• Demonstrate an ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Qualification and utilising a specific therapeutic treatment.
