Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work as a CAMHS Nurse Practitioner in our CAMHS East team, delivering high-quality services that promote and improve the mental health and wellbeing of children, young people, and their families. We are seeking an energetic, highly motivated nurse, whether newly qualified or seeking a change in direction. The successful candidate will develop skills and knowledge in the assessment and treatment of children and young people, providing care, advice, and support to those with mental health problems.

You must be an NMC-registered nurse with experience working directly with service users. You will be responsible for demonstrating excellent clinical outcomes and ensuring the safe and effective delivery of care to children and young people. CAMHS East is a caring, supportive, and hardworking team that prides itself on working creatively, innovatively, and inclusively. We have ongoing projects including redesigning clinic spaces in partnership with young people, enhancing services for young people with neurodiversity, and developing interventions for families.

Main duties of the job
  • Assessing, formulating, and providing treatment plans for children, adolescents, and their families in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Developing knowledge and skills through a structured Preceptorship if newly qualified, to meet high standards of CAMHS care.
  • Attending training, supervision, and applying reflective practice to support continuous learning.
  • Providing advice, guidance, and consultation to professionals from other agencies and team members.
  • Developing skills in teaching, training, and supervision, including supervising nursing students.
  • Contributing to the development of CAMHS through meetings and reports.
  • Participating in training activities within social services, health, and voluntary sectors.
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of legislation, safeguarding policies, and clinical practices.
  • Keeping accurate records of all work undertaken.
Qualifications and experience
  • Registered Nurse Qualification
  • Academic Qualifications (RMN/RNLD)
  • Registered with the NMC

Desirable criteria include:

  • Additional training courses (Mentorship, Management)
  • Teaching and training experience, Knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983 (2007)
  • Experience working with service users and carers, demonstrating dignity and respect
  • Knowledge of risk assessment, management, safeguarding policies, and legislation
  • Ability to identify and manage clinical risks
  • Supportive approach to young people with diverse and complex needs

Additional desirable knowledge includes:

  • Child & adolescent development or willingness to learn
  • Psycho-social approaches and methods
  • Current relevant legislation and guidance
