Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity to join the County CAMHS Children Looked After and Adoption Team. The team is jointly commissioned by Nottinghamshire County Council and Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust.

This multi-disciplinary, multi-agency team is commissioned to specifically work with children & young people who are looked after and living away from their birth parents, in the care of Nottinghamshire Children’s Services or children who require placements from out of area local authorities. These children and young people may be living with foster carers or in residential care. The team also offers support to children/young people who have been adopted, and their families.

Main duties of the job

The team offers specialist consultation, groups, and direct work for children under the age of 18 years old.

To work as part of the Specialist CAMHS Children Looked After Team providing specialist consultation, direct work, and training to children, families, and their care systems as part of Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Looked After Service and adoption.

You should be experienced in the assessment of children and young people presenting with emotional and mental health presentations, being mindful of the sensitive backgrounds of children who are looked after and adopted and in the formulation and delivery of appropriate evidence-based interventions.

You will be responsible for an agreed caseload and will be involved with consultations to networks, direct work, assessment, along with group work and training carers and other agencies.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To provide access to specialist CAMHS Children Looked After Team consultation, assessment, and intervention for young people and families. This will take place as an individual worker, online, or out in the community, whatever is felt to meet the young person and networks needs best.

You will be a member of a specialist CAMHS multi-disciplinary and multi-agency Children Looked After Team which provides specialist psychological services to a CAMHS care group.

You will liaise with a broad range of other disciplines and agencies, including education, Children & Families services, voluntary agencies, and care systems.

You will work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the team’s policies and procedures.

You will offer a range of assessments and interventions to meet the needs of young people within the service. This may involve both consultations to networks and/or direct work with the child.

You will be expected to assess and monitor the risk of children and enable the network around the child to ensure their safety.

You will be expected to offer training to other networks if it is felt this will enhance a child’s experience in care.

You will work with a variety of agencies including adult service providers to ensure a quality service is provided and quality transitions of care.

• Post Grad Qualifications in Mental Health Practice.

Contractual Requirements

• The candidate must provide access to specialist CAMHS Children Looked After Team consultation, assessment, and intervention for young people and families.

Training

• To have undertaken statutory child safeguarding training.
• Post basic training in working with people with Children who are Looked After & Adopted.
• Previous and/or Post basic training in DDP, DBT, Theraplay CBT/Family Therapy/EMDR.

Experience

• Experience of working with children/young people who are Looked After or Adopted.
• Experience of the provision of therapeutic approaches and interventions with children, young people, and networks around them.
• Working knowledge/experience of Care Programme Approach, Child and Adult Safeguarding, Equal opportunities, multidisciplinary and multi-agency team working experience.
• Significant experience of Psychological interventions with young people who are Looked After or Adopted.
• Experience of working in partnership with Acute hospitals and other health, education, and social care providers.

Skills
