Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a registered clinician to become part of the Teesside CAMHS crisis team. The post is a band 6 clinician who has a keen interest in children’s mental health and can work autonomously, carrying out crisis assessments and formulating plans for young people and their carers during times of distress.

Main duties of the job

Assess the mental health and emotional needs of children presenting in crisis, carrying out thorough risk assessments and formulating safety plans with children and their carers during times of distress.

Offer telephone support to children, young people, carers and other professionals who need advice and guidance around emotional distress.

Provide short‑term interventions around risk management and monitor mental state with a view to maintaining young people safely in the community wherever possible.

Job responsibilities
  • Work shifts over a 7‑day period, both day and night duties.
  • Work as part of a multi‑disciplinary team and communicate effectively with others.
  • Demonstrate good leadership skills to coordinate the day‑to‑day running of a shift.
  • Have a good understanding of children’s mental health and emotional wellbeing needs.
  • Work well with partner agencies with an understanding of how services link together to meet the needs of children and young people.

Qualifications
  • Current professional registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Council – RNMH or RNLD (RNSC – CAMHS only) – RGN (if appropriate).
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Recognised Practice Supervisor and/or Practice Assessor, clinical educator or equivalent – must be achieved within 6 months.
  • Trained in Clinical Supervision and providing clinical supervision or willingness to work towards within 6 months.
Experience
  • 18 months post qualifying experience including sign‑off of appropriate preceptorship or competency framework.
  • Working collaboratively with service users and their families/carers.
  • Providing clinical supervision to individuals or groups as professionally appropriate.
  • Supervising or assessing students on practice placement.
  • Working in a multi‑disciplinary team.
  • Quality improvement activities.
Knowledge
  • Understanding of relevant legislation (e.g., Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act) in the designated field.
  • Detailed understanding of Safeguarding and its application in practice.
  • Clinical Risk Assessment and Management and its application in practice.
  • Clinical Governance and its application in practice.
  • Research and development methodology.
  • Understanding of psychological models of care and treatment.
  • Working knowledge of clinical medicines management, including administration of injections.
