CAMHS Consultant Psychiatrist - Horsham Community (attracts RRP)

North West Sussex CAMHS Service has an exciting opportunity for a permanent Child and Adolescent Mental Health (CAMHS) Consultant Psychiatrist to join their locality team.

This role offers a chance to be a key player in delivering a safe, effective, and caring service for children and young people aged 0-18. Psychiatrists are vital in driving change and shaping service development. The Trust aims to continually improve for the benefit of patients and welcomes diverse clinical and non-clinical perspectives to achieve this.

You will be part of a friendly, supportive multidisciplinary team comprising nurses, psychologists, systemic family therapists, and child psychotherapists. The post collaborates with other Consultants and Specialty Doctors within Sussex CAMHS and connects with a Trust-wide Consultant network for peer support and development.

As a teaching Trust with strong ties to Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS), we host trainees at all levels, including F2, GP, core, and higher trainees, and provide training for medical and Physician Associate students from BSMS.

Main duties of the job

The service aligns with NICE evidence-based guidelines. You will conduct high-quality clinical assessments, including psychiatric and physical investigations, working collaboratively to develop tailored treatment plans.

• Provide psychiatric assessments and interventions, including medication management and mental health act assessments, ensuring high standards of care within a multidisciplinary team.
• Conduct neurodevelopmental assessments (e.g., ASD, ADHD) in partnership with colleagues, following established care pathways.
• Offer expert clinical advice, assessment, and intervention across various settings.
• Engage families and carers in care planning and delivery.
• Provide timely advice and consultation to GPs, social services, and other referrers to facilitate access to appropriate services.

Person Specification

Qualifications

• MB BS or equivalent
• GMC registration with license to practice at appointment
• On GMC Specialist Register or within six months of eligibility
• AC/S12 status
• Higher degree in medical education, research, or management (if applicable)
• Additional clinical qualifications (if any)

• Strong knowledge in the specialty
• Excellent clinical skills with a bio-psycho-social approach
• Ability to manage complex and uncertain clinical situations
