Creative Scotland invites proposals from experienced musicians to deliver a professional development workshop for early years music practitioners. This opportunity allows musicians to enhance their skills and gain valuable experience while contributing to the development of quality music-making experiences for children aged 0-5 years.
We are inviting proposals to train to plan and deliver a one-off professional development workshop for musicians working with children in the early years (age 0-5yrs).
With support from Creative Scotland's Youth Music Initiative, Early Years Music Scotland is delivering a year-long programme of free, high-quality, creative and inspiring continuous professional learning and development for musicians working with children in the early years across Scotland. The aim of this project is to offer musicians working with children in the early years across Scotland a range of professional development opportunities to develop their knowledge, skills and confidence in creating and delivering quality music-making experiences for children in the early years (0-5yrs).
This opportunity is for musicians and music practitioners who are experienced in working with children in the early years, but have not yet had the opportunity to deliver training workshops. We are inviting proposals to design and deliver a one-off workshop for musicians working with children in the early years (age 0-5yrs), and will provide support and guidance from experienced practitioners, allowing you the chance to develop new skills and gain experience in a further line of practice.
Workshops will be delivered online and last 90 minutes. Workshops will take place between September 2025 and March 2026. Dates will be arranged with successful applicants in due course.
Successful applicants will be able to demonstrate experience in music workshop leading with children in the early years, as well as a commitment to professional development and a drive to further their career in early years music making.
Workshops can be focussed on a variety of topics, including but not limited to:
Music education
Child development
Additional support needs
Shared practice amongst different creative art forms
Development of personal creative skills
Mental health and wellbeing for creative practitioners
Research

The deadline for applications is 5pm on Sunday 8th June 2025.
Please note that online workshops will be recorded and shared securely with participants after the session for a mutually agreed period of time.
Successful applicants will be engaged on a freelance basis.
Fee: £375 for one 90 minute workshop, delivered online, plus two planning and training sessions lasting 1-2 hours each. Please note that applications are limited to Scottish-domiciled individuals.
