Job summary

A leading UK calibration laboratory is seeking a Mechanical Calibration Engineer in Bristol for a 6-month contract with a rate of £280-£300 per day. Ideal candidates will have a strong background in mechanical calibration, focusing on dimensional and hand tool equipment. Responsibilities include calibrating various mechanical measuring tools and producing calibration certificates. Excellent attention to detail and previous experience in UKAS-accredited environments are desirable. Flexible working hours offered.

Overview

Mechanical Calibration Engineer — Location: Bristol — Rate: £280/300 Per Day — Length: 6 months — Hours: Opportunity to do your 40 hours over 4 days

Syntech Recruitment are working in partnership with a leading UKAS-accredited calibration laboratory to support the appointment of multiple Mechanical Calibration Engineer, specialising in hand tool metrology.

The successful candidates will work on a broad range of mechanical inspection tools, delivering high-quality calibration services to clients in aerospace, automotive, and general engineering. The role is ideal for someone with solid bench-level experience in dimensional metrology who takes pride in quality and accuracy.

Responsibilities
  • Calibrate mechanical measuring equipment such as micrometers, verniers, height gauges, bore gauges, DTI indicators, plug gauges, thread gauges, and similar hand tools
  • Work to UKAS or in-house standards
  • Produce clear and accurate calibration certificates and maintain detailed records
  • Inspect, identify, and report faults, wear, or non-conformities in mechanical instruments
  • Operate manual and semi-automated dimensional test equipment with a focus on precision
  • Support the wider team with metrology guidance and continuous improvement initiatives
Experience
  • Strong background in mechanical calibration, with a focus on dimensional and hand tool equipment
  • Previous experience in a UKAS-accredited (or ISO/IEC 17025 aligned) environment (desirable)
  • Confident working with a wide variety of inspection tools
  • Excellent attention to detail, report writing, and documentation accuracy
  • Able to work independently or within a collaborative, quality-driven team
  • Qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Metrology, or equivalent (apprenticeship, ONC/HNC) desirable
