A leading agricultural company in Cambridgeshire is seeking an Assistant Herd Manager to oversee calf rearing and youngstock management. This hands-on role requires experience in managing large numbers of calves and the ability to work independently. The position offers a competitive salary and a 3-bedroom house on the farm, promoting a supportive work environment focused on high welfare standards and modern technology.
We are recruiting for a Calf Unit Manager / Assistant Manager to join our client in Cambridgeshire. This is a hands-on, responsible position with scope for development, ideal for someone who has already worked in a couple of roles and is now ready to take more ownership.
You will manage the rearing of approximately 400 calves per year, with 11 calves born in the past 4 days alone, and are expected to hit the ground running. This is not an entry-level role – you will work with minimal supervision, so we’re looking for someone capable, dependable, and confident in making decisions. The role involves working with robot milking systems and broader herd management tasks, in collaboration with a progressive farming team using 8 milking robots.
This is one of two new hires – the other position focuses more on assistant herd management and robotic milking operations, while this role primarily handles calf rearing and youngstock management.
This is a well-established and respected farming business operating within Cambridgeshire. The business prides itself on high welfare standards, modern technology, and a supportive farm environment.
