Overview
To be part of a multi-disciplinary team that provides evidence based interventions to meet the mental health needs of young people and their families.
Main duties of the job
- The assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care for children and adolescents who have learning disabilities and mental health difficulties.
- Managing a caseload under supervision, offering a range of clinical interventions to meet the mental health needs of children and adolescents with Learning disabilities.
- Providing supervision, where agreed, to more junior members of the team.

Job responsibilities
- To practice within the guidelines as set out by appropriate professional bodies.
- To be responsible for the maintenance of accurate records and documentation.
- To participate and contribute to service development and to ensure trust policies are adhered to.
- To liaise with other agencies/disciplines to contribute to the provision of a comprehensive service for children and adolescents with a mental health need and learning disability including advocacy and signposting where appropriate.
- To provide support and supervision as required to students on placement.
- To be responsible for setting the highest standards of care in line with clinical governance.
- To demonstrate good professional practice. To be a professional role model and provide clinical supervision, where agreed, in line with trust policies and standards.
- To be responsible for the assessment of care needs and the evaluation of programmes of care.
- To formulate, implement and evaluate person centred care plans in line with trust policy and standards.
- To complete specialist assessments, outcome measures and care plans for specific challenges associated with child and adolescent mental health and learning disability.
- To encourage positive health education and promotion with children and adolescents who have mental health needs and their families/carers to reduce ill health.
- To work collaboratively with other disciplines/voluntary agencies.
- To undertake risk assessments as appropriate.
- To aid in monitoring effects of prescribed medication and report any changes as appropriate in collaboration with the prescribing medic/clinician.
- To participate and facilitate where appropriate in person centred planning for children and adolescents with a mental health needs.
- To work in liaison with adult mental health and learning disability services and other agencies to ensure transitional arrangements are meeting individual needs and are person centred.
Person Specification
- Clinical Registration
- Experience in working with people with LD
- Previous experience of working with Children
