Job summary

Auchrannie Resort on the Isle of Arran is seeking a prep chef for Bay Café by Auchrannie. You will join a brand-new team to prepare café dishes, follow recipes, and deliver high-quality food in a welcoming café environment.

The role requires prior kitchen experience in a catering setting, a positive team approach, and a passion for great food. Shifts are daytime with weekend work and some flexibility across the Café and Resort F+B outlets.

Qualifications

• Experience as prep chef, trainee or commis chef or equivalent in catering.
• Positive attitude and willingness to learn in a busy kitchen.
• Interest in developing cooking skills and food knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook café dishes consistently, following recipes, presentation standards and portions.
• Complete food preparation before and during service with chopping, cooking, baking and assembling ingredients.
• Manage your section efficiently to ensure orders are prepared accurately and served promptly.
• Check the quality, freshness and condition of ingredients before use.
• Maintain a clean, organised workstation throughout the shift.
• Follow all food safety, hygiene and allergen procedures.
• Handle and store food correctly with labeling, date rotation and temperature monitoring.
• Communicate clearly with front-of-house regarding orders and dietary needs.
• Respond to special requests and dietary requirements following correct procedures.
• Monitor stock levels and inform kitchen manager when ingredients need reordering.
• Help receive and store food deliveries correctly.
• Minimise food waste by portion controls and stock rotation.
• Clean kitchen equipment and surfaces to required standards.
• Complete opening, closing and daily cleaning duties.
• Report damaged equipment or food safety issues promptly.
• Support other kitchen team members during busy periods.
• Maintain a professional, positive, and calm approach in a busy café environment.
