Job description

Cafe Manager -

We’re an established independent cafe in Nunhead, South East London, proud to have been part of the community for the past seven years. Known for quality coffee and a relaxed but considered vibe, we’re now looking for a motivated Cafe Manager to join our team and help take the business to the next level.

This is a hands-on role for someone who thrives in a busy environment, leads by example, and has a genuine passion for coffee, people, and creating a welcoming space.

About us:

We’re more than just a coffee shop - we’ve built a loyal customer base over the years and have created a space that reflects our passions; excellent coffee, good music, and a warm, unpretentious atmosphere. We believe in attention to detail, consistency, and creating an environment where both staff and customers feel looked after.

What you’ll be doing:

  1. Overseeing the daily running of the cafe, ensuring high standards in service, quality and cleanliness.
  2. Leading and supporting a small front-of-house team - training, motivating, and creating a positive working environment.
  3. Managing rotas, stock levels, supplier relations and ordering.
  4. Monitoring sales, productivity and costs - identifying areas to improve efficiency and boost turnover.
  5. Working closely with the owner to implement new ideas and drive the business forward.
  6. Being present and hands-on; this is a role that requires energy, commitment and a great attitude.

Who we’re looking for:

  1. Previous experience in a cafe or hospitality management (ideally in an independent setting) is essential.
  2. A strong understanding of specialty coffee and a genuine interest in cafe culture.
  3. Excellent communication and people skills - both customer-facing and with your team.
  4. Good grasp of business operations - from managing costs and rotas to improving service systems.
  5. Reliable, proactive and organised, with the ability to stay calm under pressure.
  6. Someone who cares about creating a great vibe - music, atmosphere and customer experience matter greatly to us.

What we offer:

  1. 32 -36 hours a week over four set days (Thursday - Sunday), with competitive pay (based on experience).
  2. The chance to be part of a well-loved local business with room to grow as we expand.
  3. Autonomy and input in how the cafe runs day to day.
  4. A positive working environment and a supportive owner.
  5. Pension.
  6. Staff discounts, free lunch and excellent coffee every day.

If you’re a capable, coffee loving manager looking for a new challenge in a place with personality, we’d love to hear from you. Please send us your CV and a short cover letter explaining why you’d be a good fit to hello@goodcuplondon.com
