Job description

We’re looking for an experienced Café Lead/Head Barista to join our London Retail Store team.

Reporting to: Store Manager

Salary: £35k + Monthly Bonus of up to 10%

Hours: 37.5 pw (including weekends and evening working)

What you’ll be doing:
  1. Owning the successful daily running of the store café operation, maximising and elevating the overall store experience by delivering exceptional coffee and beverage products alongside best-in-class hospitality service.
  2. Lead by example in the café and on the shop floor, and support teammates with coaching and feedback, to solidify a high-performance, service-orientated team mindset and deliver on store KPIs.
  3. Ensuring the coffee bar is fully staffed, particularly during essential preparation and peak periods. Responsible for coaching and developing the team, including training of new baristas.
  4. Ensure the coffee bar is consistently stocked, whilst minimising wastage. The café lead will have the freedom to directly manage relationships with coffee, bakery and packaging suppliers, and looking for opportunities to elevate the offering.
  5. Ensure the café is fully compliant at all times with food hygiene, staff training and all legal compliance matters.
  6. Uphold the integrity of physical spaces and digital systems, through effective merchandising, stock control, and loss prevention processes, with a desire to always find the extra percent improvement.
Who You Are:
  1. You are an experienced head barista or café lead, who thrives on helping your team win. You lead from the front and look for every opportunity to elevate your team throughout your work.
  2. Specialty coffee experience, including dialling-in, espresso taste profiles and knowledge of the coffee flavour wheel. Advanced user experience of ModBar, La Marzocco espresso machines, or similar.
  3. You hold Level 3 supervising Food Hygiene certificate, supervising HACCP in a similar food environment essentials, supervising Health and Safety in hospitality, COSHH, FRA in food businesses required.
  4. You are a connector. You understand the power of community and embed yourself readily to become the local go-to.
  5. You have an eye for quality, you sweat the small stuff because you know the details matter, always.
  6. You don’t believe in the status-quo, and common logic doesn’t apply. You’re always searching for new and creative ways to drive your business forward and stay ahead of the pack.
  7. You own your results and take responsibility for your actions. You are decisive, capitalise on success, fail fast, and always learning.
