Overview

Role

CAD Technician — 6 month contract — £25 - £30 per hour — Marine applications — Portsmouth

What you’ll be doing
  • Utilising CAD design and drafting skills to generate 2D and 3D drawings and 3D models using Autodesk software such as Inventor, Vault and AutoCAD while ensuring compliance with company and industry standards.
  • CAD administration through the daily management of CAD software, including Autodesk Vault, ensuring efficient functioning and resource utilisation. Address software updates, troubleshoot issues, and provide user support.
  • Automation and process improvement through implementation of CAD automation tools and scripts to enhance design process efficiency and precision.
  • Maintain and populate the CAD library, keeping all components, templates, and standards updated and accessible.
  • Conduct quality reviews of drawings and models, ensuring they meet internal and client specifications.
  • Assist in training new CAD users and provide ongoing support to the team on CAD-related matters.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, naval architects, and control systems engineers, to ensure seamless integration and compatibility between systems and tools.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation, including specifications, work instructions, engineering drawings, and technical reports, ensuring accurate and up-to-date records throughout the process.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in CAD design, with a focus on Autodesk software including Inventor, Vault and AutoCAD being highly beneficial.
  • Knowledge of CAD automation and scripting.
  • Excellent organizational skills including time management, prioritisation, and deadline adherence.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, enabling effective collaboration with diverse team members.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify, analyse, and resolve complex challenges.
  • Courageous and innovative mindset, unafraid to challenge conventional thinking and propose novel ideas.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to create accurate technical drawings and models.
  • Experience of workshop and manufacturing environments would be very beneficial.
