Job summary

Hales Group is recruiting a CAD Technician based in Eye, Suffolk. The role involves producing and reviewing fabrication drawings, BOMs, and part lists to support manufacturing and project delivery.

You will work with engineering, production, and customers to ensure clear communication and timely delivery of accurate designs. You'll use Autodesk Inventor 3D, Vault and AutoCAD, with potential exposure to iLogic/Python automation.

Qualifications

• Apply design for manufacture and lean principles to reduce risk and costs.

Responsibilities

• Create and check BOMs and parts lists for production release.
• Collaborate with customers, colleagues and manufacturing teams for data flow.
• Support Autodesk Inventor 3D and Vault across the team.
• Apply DFM and value-engineering to deliver cost-effective solutions.
• Adhere to engineering best practices and ISO 9001 quality initiatives.

Role Overview

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Design Engineer to join our client’s team in Eye, Suffolk.

This is an exciting opportunity to work on customer-focused engineering projects, producing accurate designs, drawings, and Bills of Materials that support efficient manufacturing and project delivery.

Working closely with engineering, production, and project teams, you'll play a key role in developing innovative design solutions, enhancing 3D design capabilities, and ensuring products are delivered safely, accurately, and to the highest standards. Ideal for someone with a strong engineering background who enjoys problem-solving, collaboration, and making a real impact.

Duties Include

• Produce and review approval, fabrication, and construction drawings, ensuring accuracy and delivery within agreed timescales.
• Create and check Bills of Materials (BOMs) and parts lists, ensuring they are accurate, up to date, and released efficiently to production.
• Work closely with customers, colleagues, and manufacturing teams to ensure clear communication and the smooth flow of information.
• Support the ongoing development and use of Autodesk Inventor 3D and Vault Professional across the Engineering & Design team.
• Apply Design for Manufacture principles and value-engineering techniques to deliver practical, cost-effective solutions.
• Follow engineering best practice to design out hazards and minimise risk wherever reasonably possible.
• Contribute ideas and initiatives that improve processes, efficiency, and overall team performance.
• Actively support Continuous Improvement, Lean Manufacturing, and ISO 9001 quality initiatives to enhance business performance.

Skills and Attributes

• Proficient in Autodesk Inventor 3D, SolidWorks, or similar 3D CAD software, along with AutoCAD.
• Able to work independently, using initiative to deliver high-quality, accurate work within deadlines.
• Strong engineering and manufacturing background with sound technical knowledge.
• Experience creating and maintaining Bills of Materials (BOMs).
• Familiarity with ERP systems would be advantageous.
• Degree, HND, or equivalent qualification in Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related discipline, or relevant industry experience.
• Knowledge of iLogic, Python, or other automation/programming tools would be beneficial.
