CAD Technician - Structural Engineering Focus

A leading live event infrastructure and production company is seeking experienced CAD Technicians with a background in structural engineering to join their dynamic team. Specialising in bespoke staging, temporary structures, and full-scale event solutions, the company delivers exceptional experiences across festivals, sporting events, ceremonies, and brand activations for globally recognised clients.

About the Role:

As a CAD Technician, you'll play a key role in translating structural concepts into precise technical drawings that support the safe and efficient delivery of high-profile live events. Your experience in structural engineering will be vital in ensuring the integrity and feasibility of temporary installations such as stages, grandstands, and rigging systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Produce detailed 2D and 3D drawings using AutoCAD and other design software.
  • Apply structural engineering principles to temporary event structures.
  • Translate concept sketches and technical briefs into accurate infrastructure plans.
  • Revise and update drawings based on feedback from engineering and site teams.
  • Collaborate with project managers to understand spatial and load-bearing requirements.
  • Prepare documentation for planning, build manuals, and health & safety compliance.
  • Conduct site visits to verify measurements and conditions.
  • Maintain drawing standards and manage CAD file archives.

Skills & Experience:

Essential:

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD (2D & 3D); knowledge of SketchUp, Vectorworks, or Inventor is a plus.
  • Experience producing technical drawings for structural or civil engineering projects.
  • Strong understanding of load-bearing structures and temporary installations.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to interpret technical data and site constraints.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Desirable:

  • Experience with live events or staging systems.
  • Familiarity with CDM regulations and temporary works.
  • Ability to interpret third-party structural drawings.
  • Qualification in CAD design, structural engineering, architecture, or related field.
