Job description

Job Opportunity: CAD Technician

Location: Suffolk
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: 35K - 37K based on skill set and experience

Are you an ambitious CAD Technician with a landscape/civils background? Do you want to shape and grow a dynamic design team within a thriving environmental contractor? If so, we want to hear from you!

About the Company: The Hiring company is a successful contractor with years of experience designing and constructing water-based projects across the UK, including lakes, reservoirs, wetland creation, river restoration, and desilting works. Our reputation is built on delivering high-quality projects, often through recommendations, repeat clients, and successful tendering. We collaborate with a diverse range of consultants (ecologists, hydrologists, structural engineers, and more) to provide comprehensive project delivery.

The Role: We are seeking an experienced Land/Waterscape Designer to join our office-based team near Bury St Edmunds. You'll work alongside our established landscape designer, with the opportunity to lead and develop the design department. This is an exciting chance to shape the future of our design services, coordinating a network of consultants and expanding our capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Designing and planning landscape and waterscape projects using AutoCAD (Civil 3D experience is a bonus but not essential).
  2. Managing projects from concept to completion, including planning, permitting, and client liaison.
  3. Collaborating with specialist consultants to deliver integrated design solutions.
  4. Helping to grow and strengthen our in-house design team and consultancy services.
  5. Contributing strategic insights to enhance our 'turnkey' project delivery approach.

What We're Looking For:

  1. Proficiency in AutoCAD (Civil 3D knowledge is advantageous).
  2. Experience in landscape or civils industries.
  3. Project management skills.
  4. A proactive and collaborative attitude.
  5. Ambition to lead, build, and manage a growing design team.

Desirable Specialisms: Experience or interest in any of the following would be highly valuable:

  1. Planning & permission processes (including Environment Agency and council permitting).
  2. Environmental management.
  3. Hydrology or geomorphology.
  4. Ecology and biodiversity net gain.
  5. Nutrient neutrality.

Why Join? This role offers the unique opportunity to shape your career and influence the direction of our design services. With the right individual, there's scope to grow the team and build a thriving consultancy arm within the business.

If you're a motivated designer with a vision for the future and the skills to match, we'd love to discuss how you can be a part of our journey.
