The Vacancy

Homer Burgess, part of RSK Group, is a well-established, family-run mechanical engineering company founded in 1958 and based in Dumfries, Scotland. We are actively seeking a CAD Technician to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for creating and modifying technical drawings using CAD software, assisting in the design and development of mechanical engineering projects. Key Responsibilities:

  1. Produce high-quality, detailed 2D & 3D CAD models and technical drawings for client approval, manufacturing, installation, and as-built documentation.
  2. Interpret technical specifications, customer-supplied drawings, and sketches to develop accurate designs.
  3. Collaborate closely with tradespersons, engineers, and clients to ensure drawings align with project requirements.
  4. Produce and maintain all project-related technical documentation.
  5. Conduct site surveys and accurately translate findings into technical models and drawings.
  6. Review and check drawings for accuracy, ensuring compliance with client requirements, industry standards, and specifications.

Person Requirements:

  1. Proven experience as a CAD Technician in a mechanical engineering, fabrication, or machining environment.
  2. Proficiency in CAD software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  3. Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and problem-solving skills.
  4. Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, adapting to tight deadlines and last-minute updates.
  5. Excellent communication and teamwork skills, capable of working across all levels of the business.
  6. Committed to company policies, including SHEQ systems (Safety, Health, Environment & Quality).

Homer Burgess is a successful, family-run company founded in 1958 in Dumfries, Scotland. We are a well-known and respected mechanical engineering business offering design, fabrication, installation, repair and maintenance services. We are renowned for our repair and maintenance service offering, providing a range of on- and off-site services, including maintenance service programmes, fitting work around shutdown windows and quieter periods to minimise disruption to the client’s operations.

We work with clients to provide bespoke design solutions with a team of highly qualified and experienced engineers working from an extensive site, including a fabrication shop, metalwork, milling, lathe, roller and compressor equipment. Our business is approved for welding and specialises in fabricating steelwork, tanks, vessels, pipework and machinery.

Our services include engineering design and solutions, fabrication, machining, milling, turning and grinding and using computer-aided design (CAD), 2D drawing and 3D modelling. We work with clients to understand requirements and to solve problems, offering appropriate solutions.
