The ideal candidate will have 2+ years of experience in building services, proficiency in CAD and Revit, and be part of a collaborative team. You will ensure compliance with client requirements and best practices while developing high-quality technical solutions. Competitive salary and professional development opportunities available.
Climate17 is excited to be working with a heat network consultancy playing a leading role in the decarbonization of heat in the UK.
We are seeking a technically skilled Consulting Engineer with strong CAD/Revit proficiency to deliver mechanical system designs for complex building services projects. You’ll contribute to a range of commercial and residential developments, focusing on above-ground mechanical services such as heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and domestic water systems.
In this role, you will ensure project deliverables meet client requirements, are delivered on time and budget, and align with best practices and regulatory standards. You will work closely with design teams, engineers, and stakeholders to develop coordinated models and drawings that support successful project outcomes from early concept through detailed design.
You will report to a Senior Engineer and be part of a collaborative team delivering technical solutions in a high-paced consultancy environment. The position is ideal for engineers working toward Chartered status with a strong foundation in building services engineering.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop 3D models and detailed drawings for HVAC, hot & cold water, and drainage systems using Revit and AutoCAD.
- Produce mechanical design documentation including schematics, equipment schedules, specifications, and layout drawings for RIBA Stage 3 and 4 design deliverables.
- Undertake sizing calculations for pipework, ductwork, and plant selection using industry-standard tools and engineering judgment.
- Participate in early-stage design discussions and technical optioneering with clients, consultants, and internal teams.
- Attend coordination meetings and contribute to resolving clashes and design interface issues with other disciplines.
- Maintain quality documentation and ensure designs align with internal standards, regulations, and project-specific requirements.
- Provide technical input into tender packages and assist during construction by reviewing contractor submittals and responding to RFIs.
- Support pre-commissioning and handover processes to ensure systems are installed and operate as intended.
Requirements:
Essential:
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a consulting engineering environment within building services.
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems in buildings, particularly above-ground services.
- Proficiency in Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD for mechanical services design.
- Competency in preparing technical deliverables for RIBA Stages 3 & 4.
- Familiarity with building services calculation methods and software tools (e.g., Hevacomp, IES, or similar).
- Competent in Microsoft Office Suite.
Desirable:
- Experience coordinating mechanical services in BIM environments and working on clash detection using Navisworks or similar tools.
- Familiarity with CIBSE design guidance and relevant standards.
- Knowledge of CDM regulations and design risk assessments.
- Exposure to project delivery from concept to construction support.
Professional Development:
- You will be supported through an accelerated development programme tailored to CAD/Revit engineers transitioning into consulting roles.
- Mentorship opportunities may be available, particularly with Graduate Engineers.
- As your role evolves, you’ll gain deeper knowledge of UK regulations, technical standards, and sustainability practices influencing mechanical design in the built environment.
