A leading company in rail systems is seeking a detail-oriented CAD Engineer to prepare CAD drawings and support engineering activities. We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically capable Rail Systems CAD Engineer to support engineering activities across rail projects. Reporting to the Rail Systems Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for preparing CAD drawings, supporting project design and installation activities, and ensuring that engineering works meet technical, safety, and quality standards. You will also take an active interest in technological and industry developments and demonstrate a proactive approach to learning and continuous improvement.
Prepare CAD drawings for all rail projects across various sectors of the business.
Maintain and improve the centralized CAD repository and related processes.
Continuously review and enhance CAD workflows to ensure efficiency.
Collaborate closely with designers to produce accurate and timely project drawings.
Provide CAD training and support to colleagues as needed.
Assist engineering and project teams with the design and installation of solutions in line with customer specifications.
Communicate effectively with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders at all levels.
Support change management and contribute to requirements capture and documentation.
Develop a thorough understanding of internal/external systems, procedures, and engineering standards.
Maintain and strengthen client relationships by supporting engineers to meet customer expectations.
Ensure compliance with company QHSE (Quality, Health, Safety & Environment) policies and procedures.
Prepare internal communications and technical documentation to a high standard.
Manage individual tasks and meet deadlines with strong attention to detail.
Support project delivery by assisting Project Managers in controlling time, cost, and quality.
Liaise with subcontractors, consultants, and clients on drawing reviews and approvals.
Gain knowledge of relevant standards such as BS, ISO, Network Rail, CDM, and others.
Apply principles of fail-safe design, power distribution, and panel layout.
Identify project risks or delays and report accordingly.
Proficient in AutoCAD or similar drawing software, with experience in a rail environment.
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams).
Excellent attention to detail and communication skills, both written and verbal.
Able to work both independently and collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams.
Demonstrated organisational skills and ability to prioritise workload effectively.
Commercial awareness and a proactive, solutions-driven mindset.
Understanding of project control and management principles.
Familiarity with:
Schematic diagrams and TD600 design standards.
TD500 workmanship standards.
Fire safety procedures.
Telephone and internal communication systems.
Office safety and quality procedures.
Standard Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Flexible Working Options Available
Core Hours:
Monday to Thursday: 09:00 – 16:00
Friday: 09:00 – 12:00
Working Window: 07:00 – 18:00 (Monday to Friday)
Lunch Break: 12:00 – 12:30 (daily)
