About the Design Technical Engineer Role

This is not just a CAD jockey job. This is a wide-ranging, high-visibility engineering role where you’ll lead on technical development, contribute to lean and CNC manufacturing optimisation, prototype new ideas, and improve the way custom timber products are made and delivered.

From data analysis and process innovation to cross-functional teamwork and real-world problem-solving—this role puts you at the intersection of engineering, design, and cutting-edge production.

Whether you're improving tooling, refining 3D simulations, or supporting customer-specific adaptations, you’ll be hands-on in shaping how things get made—better, faster, and smarter.

Key Responsibilities of the Design Technical Engineer

  • Produce and maintain accurate CAD models, technical drawings, and specifications aligned with design and regulatory standards

  • Support the development and optimisation of CNC machining processes and automated manufacturing systems

  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in workflows, tooling, and digital production methods

  • Collaborate with design, production, and sales teams to ensure technical accuracy on bespoke orders

  • Assist in the prototyping and validation of new products or production techniques

  • Ensure all technical documentation is up-to-date, accurate, and audit-ready

  • Contribute to the delivery of client-specific technical solutions and support product training when required

  • What We’re Looking For in a Design Technical Engineer

Must-Have Skills:

  • Proven proficiency in 2D/3D CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar)

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability

  • Advanced computer literacy, especially Excel and data management tools

  • Ability to read and interpret complex technical drawings

  • High attention to detail and a continuous improvement mindset

  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach

  • Desirable but Not Essential:

  • Degree (or equivalent experience) in Mechanical, Product, Industrial, or Building Engineering

  • Experience in CNC programming or lean manufacturing environments

  • Background in architectural or structural product development
