Job summary

Theo James Recruitment is working with an established heavy engineering and precision machining business to recruit an experienced CAD/CAM Engineer for integral role in manufacturing. You will own projects from customer order through to manufacture, producing 3D models and NC programs using Siemens NX, and collaborating with Engineering, Production and Quality.

Qualifications

• Extensive Siemens NX CAD/CAM experience.
• Strong working knowledge of Siemens Sinumerik CNC controls.
• CNC milling and turning programming experience.
• Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings.
• Strong understanding of cutting tools, machining strategies and cutting data.

Responsibilities

• Producing 3D models and manufacturing drawings using Siemens NX.
• Creating CNC programs using Siemens NX CAM.
• Developing machining strategies, tooling requirements and workholding solutions.
• Simulating machining operations to identify potential collisions and minimise prove-out time.
• Programming and editing Siemens CNC programs directly at the machine.
• Supporting ShopMill and ShopTurn programming where required.
• Optimising feeds, speeds, tooling and machining cycles.
• Reviewing customer drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
• Supporting first-off inspection and working with Quality to resolve manufacturing issues.

The CAD/CAM Engineer will sit at the heart of the manufacturing process, working closely with Engineering, Production and Quality to take projects from customer order through to completed manufacture.

Job Description

As CAD/CAM Engineer, you will take technical ownership of engineering projects and determine the most effective methods of manufacturing complex components.

Key responsibilities will include

• Producing 3D models and manufacturing drawings using Siemens NX.

• Developing machining strategies, tooling requirements and workholding solutions.
• Simulating machining operations to identify potential collisions and minimise prove-out time.

Skills & Experience

To be considered for the CAD/CAM Engineer position, you should have:

• Extensive Siemens NX CAD/CAM experience.
• Strong working knowledge of Siemens Sinumerik CNC controls.
• CNC milling and turning programming experience.
• Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings.
• Strong understanding of cutting tools, machining strategies and cutting data.

Experience within heavy engineering, large-component machining or precision machining would be advantageous but is not essential. Fanuc or Heidenhain knowledge, fixture design, reverse engineering and CMM knowledge would also be beneficial.
