C4I Solution Architect

Location: UK – Flexible/Templecombe based

Function: Thales Integrated Airspace Protection Systems (IAS), Technical Directorate

The role:

Thales brings a future in software intensive C4I (Command, Control, Communication, Computers and Intelligence) solutions. Due to significant growth we are recruiting for a Solution Architect with knowledge of C4I and secure digital technologies, who can lead the full design life cycle, designing and developing innovative technical solutions that meet our customers and business needs. The role covers all aspects of the solution and product lifecycle, from requirements capture and analysis through solution definition, concept studies, modelling and simulation, design and development. Specific skills in application of Cloud/Digital Platforms/Data Intensive Systems in Defence applications would be beneficial.

Key responsibilities:

As part of the IAS (Integrated Airspace Protection Systems) C4I Solutions team, the role will require both significant customer and internal organisation interaction, leading on a variety of technical solution definitions. Responsibilities will include:

  • Lead the architecting and development of our C4I solutions
  • Work within teams defining C4I architectures, including concept of operation, functional partitioning, and interfaces between sub-systems
  • Maintain an awareness of the latest developments in Digital Technology (e.g. Cloud Computing, Data Analytics, Data Fusion) and identify how they can be exploited in our products and solutions
  • Build long term relationships with customers, partners, and suppliers
  • Proposal generation and cost estimating
  • Provide technical governance of the engineering activities during the development and delivery phases
You will likely have:
  • Experience working within Defence ideally in the C4ISTAR domain
  • A track record of successfully defining and delivering customer solutions
  • Experience of working with sales/business development teams


The successful candidate will need to be able to gain SC clearance. We will consider a relocation package for the right individual.

This role will require SC Clearance. It would be advantageous if currently held, however, if not currently held, it is a requirement that the successful applicant will undergo, achieve, and maintain SC Clearance. Please visit the UKSV website for further guidance.
