Location: Remote, , UK Type: Contract Vacancy Pay:£50.00 - £60.00 Per Hour Reference: 25-00312

Are you an experienced C&I Design Engineer looking for your next contract opportunity in the energy sector? Our client, a respected EPIC contractor delivering complex control and instrumentation upgrade projects across the UK gas transmission network, is seeking a technically strong, client-facing engineer to support detailed design phases of site upgrades in Norfolk, Lincolnshire, and Scotland.

This is a remote-based role, with very occasional site visits and infrequent travel to the client's Norwich office for key meetings.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the delivery of control & instrumentation design packages for brownfield upgrade projects.

  • Develop and review core system design documentation: FDS, DDS, C&E matrices, loop diagrams, etc.

  • Act as the technical interface to the end client – providing design clarity and leadership throughout.

  • Ensure compliance with functional safety lifecycle principles (IEC 61511) across design deliverables.

  • Contribute to hardware and software design activities for control and safety systems.

  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure technical integration and project delivery.

Required Experience:
  • Proven background in process control and instrumentation, ideally in the oil & gas or gas transmission sector.

  • Experience working with turbine and/or compression systems is highly desirable.

  • Strong familiarity with the functional safety lifecycle (IEC 61511).

  • Demonstrated competence in producing and reviewing detailed design documentation.

  • Hands-on knowledge of control systems hardware and/or software.

  • Confident in client-facing technical lead roles, able to represent engineering delivery to external stakeholders.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a specialist team working on critical national infrastructure projects. You'll bring deep sector knowledge, design expertise, and the confidence to lead technical discussions with clients.
