Are you an experienced C&I Design Engineer looking for your next contract opportunity in the energy sector? Our client, a respected EPIC contractor delivering complex control and instrumentation upgrade projects across the UK gas transmission network, is seeking a technically strong, client-facing engineer to support detailed design phases of site upgrades in Norfolk, Lincolnshire, and Scotland.
This is a remote-based role, with very occasional site visits and infrequent travel to the client's Norwich office for key meetings.
Lead the delivery of control & instrumentation design packages for brownfield upgrade projects.
Develop and review core system design documentation: FDS, DDS, C&E matrices, loop diagrams, etc.
Act as the technical interface to the end client – providing design clarity and leadership throughout.
Ensure compliance with functional safety lifecycle principles (IEC 61511) across design deliverables.
Contribute to hardware and software design activities for control and safety systems.
Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure technical integration and project delivery.
Proven background in process control and instrumentation, ideally in the oil & gas or gas transmission sector.
Experience working with turbine and/or compression systems is highly desirable.
Strong familiarity with the functional safety lifecycle (IEC 61511).
Demonstrated competence in producing and reviewing detailed design documentation.
Hands-on knowledge of control systems hardware and/or software.
Confident in client-facing technical lead roles, able to represent engineering delivery to external stakeholders.
