Job Description

Engage in the development of next‑generationsonar systemsautonomousundersea vehicles, with ALTEN Ltd! Join our team to develop and integrate advancedmathematical models and signal processing algorithmsinto operational defence software systems to enhance detection, classification, and imaging capabilities. You’ll work on translating complex theoretical models into efficient, production‑ready code that underpins high‑performance, safety‑critical applications. Your work will contribute to the evolution of autonomous mine countermeasure systems, leveraging AI‑driven mission management toimprove maritime securityand operational efficiency.

Location:Manchester (Stockport)
On‑site:4-5 Days per week
Seniority:Senior (8+ years’ experience)
Clearance:SC clearable (no caveats)

Key Responsibilities

• Implement, integrate, and optimisecomplex mathematical and signal processing modelsinto production software.
• Applymodel‑driven development, combining both autogenerated and hand‑written code.
• Ensurehigh code qualitythrough adherence to clean coding principles, static analysis, and best practices.
• Collaborate with teams onmodel simulation, validation, and verification, using MATLAB/Simulink or similar tools.
• Maintain comprehensivesoftware documentation deliverablesand reporting.
• Supportunit and wider software testingto ensure reliability and performance.
• Contribute to the ongoing improvement ofsoftware architectures and toolchains.

• Familiarity withLinux targetsand development infrastructure.

Required Qualifications

• ABachelor’s or Master’s degreeinSoftware Engineering, Computer Science,or a related disciplineORrelevanttechnical military backgroundwith equivalent hands‑on experience.
• Must be eligible for or already holdUK Security Clearance (SC)
• A PhD is highly desirable, but not required.
• Familiarity withLinux scripting, Windows targets, and software build pipelines.
• Exposure tosoftware QA, safety compliance, and assurance practices.
• Knowledge ofDefence sector processesand tooling.
• Awareness ofCI/CD, containerisation, virtualisation, and emerging development methodologies.
