Buyer / Senior Purchasing Specialist – Cheshire - £50, basic +Hybrid + Benefits
The Job:
Are you a driven and detail-oriented Buyer with experience in raw material sourcing across local and international markets? We are seeking a highly capable individual to join a dynamic procurement team in Cheshire, as a Buyer /Senior Purchasing Specialist, supervising other member of staff, where your expertise will ensure a seamless and efficient supply chain.
Key Responsibilities:
- Purchasing & Pricing:
Manage daily pricing and purchasing for local, air, and sea freight shipments.
Support the Purchasing Manager in negotiating supplier terms and managing landed costs.
Maintain regular pricing reports and track market fluctuations.
- Supplier & Stock Management:
Supervise a Purchasing Administrator, ensuring timely management of samples, CoAs, and labels.
Build and maintain supplier-SKU matrices including risk assessments.
Track and analyse supplier performance and support onboarding of new vendors and SKUs.
- Purchase Order & Freight Coordination:
Create and manage purchase orders in Sage , ensuring accurate landed costs.
Organise and calculate costs for international air and sea freight shipments.
Expedite or defer orders in line with business needs and inventory levels.
- Process & Compliance:
Ensure all documentation meets food safety standards.
Collaborate closely with internal departments (Sales, Quality, Customs, Logistics) to streamline processes and meet compliance requirements.
- Reporting & Continuous Improvement:
Deliver monthly purchasing reports across multiple divisions.
Participate in SOP reviews and suggest improvements to purchasing processes.
The Candidate:
- 3+ years’ experience in purchasing or supply chain within a regulated sector (food, pharma, nutraceutical, chemicals)
- Strong negotiation skills with exposure to international freight and Incoterms
- Proficient in ERP systems (preferably Sage ) and Microsoft Excel
- Strong numeracy skills, capable of calculating landed costs and currency impacts
- Proactive communicator, comfortable working cross-functionally
- Results-oriented, process-driven, and eager to contribute to continuous improvement
