We are working in collaboration with a leading supplier of high-quality meat and poultry products, and we are keen to speak to experienced Buyers from the meat industry.

This vacancy is a site-based role; however, the successful candidate will need to possess a full UK driving licence and passport, and have a flexible approach to travel within the UK and occasionally abroad.

As a Buyer:

You will be responsible for purchasing meat and poultry products. You will liaise closely with internal stakeholders, maintain and develop strong supplier relationships, and implement the company buying strategy to generate a solid base for current customers and new business.

Key Accountabilities:

1. Implement the company buying strategy for your categories, identifying the best suppliers to provide optimal commercial and product offerings, and adjusting strategies according to changing business needs.
2. Negotiate prices, volumes, and specifications with suppliers for raw materials, working closely with the Supply Chain, Planning, and Operations teams.
3. Manage supplier performance with the Supply Chain team, ensuring service levels and KPIs are met, and take corrective action when necessary.
4. Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of the relevant market categories and act as the market expert.
5. Build effective, collaborative relationships with internal stakeholders to understand and meet business buying requirements.
6. Administer supplier cost prices accurately and promptly.
7. Assist in preparing customer tenders by providing forward pricing indications within set deadlines.
8. Identify supply chain risks and recommend measures to ensure supply continuity.

To be considered for the role of Buyer:

• Previous experience in food purchasing, ideally poultry, chilled food manufacturing, or fresh meat supply, including Foodservice.
• CIP qualification is advantageous.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships.
• Detailed understanding of product and material costings.
• Proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Effective written and spoken presentation skills.
• Good knowledge of general purchasing practices for goods and services.
• Ability to work independently with a flexible and open approach, as the product range is diverse.
• Strong problem-solving skills to identify and resolve supply issues.
• Proven project management success.
