A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a buyer of goods and services to join our (Good Not For Resale) Procurement team at our Head Office in Newcastle upon Tyne.

This is a great opportunity for someone looking to develop a Purchasing career within a fast-paced, values-led retail business. You’ll support key projects such as enhancing our digital platforms, introducing new in-store technology, and working with partners who help shape the future of our brand.

About the role
  • This is a full-time role, however flexibility in this will be considered

  • The base location for this role is Newcastle upon Tyne, NE12 8BU. Ideally, you’ll live within one hour travel of this area
What you'll do

As part of this role, you’ll be contributing to Greggs’ exciting plans for the future of IT and Marketing, you'll also;

  • Liaise with Internal stakeholders where appropriate to understand their requirements for purchases, such that they can be tendered if appropriate
  • Negotiate Commercial and Contractual terms with Suppliers
  • Support in the managing of, and resolving, day to day issues with suppliers in a timely and effective manner
  • Take ownership for, and driving, cost saving initiatives throughout the business in key areas of responsibility
  • Extract and analyse SAP data to identify opportunities to drive value or consolidate suppliers in their category
  • Liaise with the Senior Purchasing Team should these purchases be from suppliers that they deal with, as part of their Supplier Relationship management to agree the approach and activity
  • Identify and negotiate appropriate specifications and SLAs for goods and services supplied
  • Adhere, support and contribute to our Responsible Sourcing processes and goals
  • Review processes and standards to maintain customer focus and ensuring best practice is achieved
  • Maintain good relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, including suppliers
  • Source the market either via existing supplier relationships, utilising market knowledge within the team or using sourcing tools (e.g., Ariba)
  • Support the Purchasing Managers on larger projects as required
About you

You will fit right into this role if you:

  • Have outstanding planning and organising skills
  • Are articulate with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Assertive with ability to manage internal and external contacts with diplomacy
  • Persuasive and able to communicate and influence at all levels
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Expert with Office 365 and competent with SAP reporting
  • Experience of either working with Suppliers and/or negotiating better pricing, tender processes or driving value from supplier interactions
  • Experience of dealing with multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Experience of reporting from SAP, running analysis using excel and driving insight from data
  • Ability to demonstrate a capability to liaise with Internal and External contacts and to effectively ensure Stakeholder engagement
  • Highly numerate and literate
  • Computer literate with knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 suite and ideally SAP
  • A can-do attitude and flexibility to working hours is required
