About the Role

This is a fixed term contract role for up to 18 months. Please note internally this role is known as "Senior Buyer".

The National Physical Laboratory sets standards that measure everything, helping to address global issues such as climate change, disease cures, and advanced communication technologies. As a Senior Buyer, you'll ensure products, materials, and services represent value for money while maintaining quality.

What you'll be doing:

You will oversee a portfolio of products, materials, or services from tender to order, manage supplier relationships, negotiate, and monitor deliveries to ensure timeliness, cost-effectiveness, and quality. Maintaining procurement systems and resolving issues will also be key. We support a hybrid work model with flexible options to promote work-life balance.

About You

You should be CIPS qualified or have equivalent experience. You are a team player, numerate, commercially astute, organized, and a skilled negotiator.

Skills and experience you can bring to the role:

• MCIPS or equivalent qualification
• Experience in Public Sector Buying and understanding of Procurement Regulations and the Procurement Act
• Proven procurement track record, familiar with Frameworks
• Experience with procurement systems and E-tendering portals like Bravo Solutions
• Experience in high-value capital procurement
• Strong negotiation skills at high levels
• Ability to deliver procurement benefits including savings
• Prioritization skills and adaptability to change
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
