Job summary

The Job People Limited is seeking a Buyer for a permanent position in Willenhall. Salary 30k to 34k depending on experience. Working hours 37 per week: Mon-Thu 8am-4:30pm, Fri 8am-1pm. On-site with occasional remote work in line with policy.

You will purchase materials and services, ensure continuous supply, manage expediting and pushouts, and work with our overseas team in China and Malaysia. You will also support sourcing for NPI projects.

Qualifications

• At least 2 years buying experience in manufacturing.
• Sourcing knowledge of plastics, metals and electronics.
• Ability to develop sound supplier relationships.
• Strong commercial acumen and cost-saving focus.
• Excellent organisation and planning skills.
• Buying, purchasing and procurement experience.
• Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
• Business experience or vocational/technical qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Purchase goods, materials, components & services in line with specified cost, quality, and delivery targets (metals, plastics and/or electronic commodities).
• Ensure continuous supply of required goods and materials; communicate supply problems which may pose a risk or impact on customer fulfilment.
• Manage purchasing for all customers including buying, expediting and pushouts.
• Enable effective supplier selection, assessment, performance, and improvement.
• Support with quoting and pricing of new parts for NPI projects; lead sourcing and tooling decisions as required.
• Negotiate for improved prices and terms of business with suppliers and identify opportunities to make business savings.
• Implement the company's supply chain strategy, working to establish cohesive ways of working between the UK and overseas team
• Implement initiatives to improve operational efficiency, add value, aid business performance, and work towards continuous improvement.

Buyer Job role and scope

Reporting to the Materials Manager, you are responsible for purchasing goods, materials, and services to ensure that the company's operational needs are met, considering price, quality, and delivery, and to ensure continuity of supply. You will be part of the small buying team and collaborate with our overseas team in China & Malaysia, ensuring consistent focus on proactive ordering and supply of materials to meet customer requirements. You will also support with the sourcing of materials for NPI projects.

Main responsibilities of the Buyer role

• Purchase goods, materials, components & services in line with specified cost, quality, and delivery targets (metals, plastics and/or electronic commodities).
• Ensure continuous supply of required goods and materials; communicating any supply problems which may pose a risk or impact on customer fulfilment.

Skills, knowledge & experience required for the Buyer Role

• Relevant experience of buying and negotiating best value commodities within manufacturing (at least 2 years).
• Good sourcing knowledge of plastics, metals and electronics.
• Ability to develop sound business relationships with suppliers & customers.
• Good commercial acumen, experience of delivering cost-effective solutions.
• Excellent organisation and planning skills; confident to prioritise competing demands.
• Buying, purchasing and procurement experience
• Excellent communication skills and confidence to liaise verbally or in writing.
• Business experience and/or any relevant vocational/technical qualifications.

You will be based onsite at Willenhall, and work closely with the Material Manager. We have 48 employees in the company, most of whom are based in Wolverhampton. We also have an overseas team (based China and Malaysia). To stay connected and work effectively as a team for our customers and suppliers, we are office based with 1 working day from home each week if you can do your job remotely.

Remuneration and benefits for the Buyer Role

• Paying 30k to 34k dependent on skills and experience
• Working hours 37 hrs per week 8am to 4:30pm Monday to Thursday and 8am to 1pm Friday
• Holidays: 25 days (includes Christmas shutdown) plus Bank Holidays
• Pension: Auto-enrolment with NEST pensions 5% + 3% company contributions
