Piccadilly Construction, our in-house Construction Management Team, is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Buyer/Assistant Buyer to assist with purchasing and procurement. This role requires supporting the Procurement Manager with buying arrangements related to our construction and maintenance activities.

Responsibilities:

  1. Negotiate optimal supply chain arrangements with key materials suppliers.
  2. Develop long-term strategic relationships with suppliers to maximize economies of scale.
  3. Schedule and place material and plant orders, optimizing for cost and quality.
  4. Review Architects/Engineers drawings for discrepancies and compliance with material specifications, resolving queries with relevant teams.
  5. Prepare material cost schedules and budgets for new projects, monitoring costs to stay within budgets.
  6. Create schedules for material enquiries, send to suppliers for quotations, and assess supplier responses.
  7. Report material cost increases as they occur.
  8. Resolve invoice queries with the accounts team.
  9. Conduct on-site material checks and produce reports.
  10. Visit sites regularly to ensure smooth supply and material handling.
  11. Negotiate with suppliers and raise orders for the wider business, including property maintenance, sales, and marketing, where strategic procurement adds value.
  12. Maintain effective relationships with all stakeholders, including contractors, suppliers, in-house teams, consultants, and specialists, to ensure project success.
  13. Perform other duties as required by the employer.

About You:

  • Understanding of construction industry procurement processes.
  • Knowledge of effective buying functions within construction.
  • Good understanding of the materials supply chain.
  • Skills:
  • A proactive, positive, and commercially minded attitude, with a willingness to challenge norms and work at pace.
  • Excellent financial and numerical skills, including budgeting and cash flow management.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and manage workloads effectively.
  • Experience:
  • At least 2 years of buying experience within a construction business.
