Job summary

Prince Personnel is recruiting a Buyer for a fast-paced FMCG manufacturing site in Telford. You will support the Purchasing Manager and contribute to sourcing, supplier negotiations, and ERP-based purchasing initiatives.

Ideal candidates have experience in procurement roles and a solid understanding of supplier management, with opportunities for mentoring and career growth within the organisation.

Qualifications

• Experience in purchasing within FMCG manufacturing is essential.
• Sourcing, negotiating with and managing suppliers is required.
• Good understanding of procurement processes and techniques.
• Experience in Buyer/Junior Buyer/Purchasing Assistant or similar roles.
• CIPS qualification is advantageous but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Assist in sourcing and procuring both production and non-production materials and services to keep operations running smoothly.
• Analyse demand, generate purchase orders, and track inventory to maintain optimal stock levels.
• Liaise with suppliers to ensure timely deliveries, resolve supply chain issues, and suggest improvements.
• Lead contract negotiations, onboard new suppliers, and maintain supplier relationships.
• Support ERP-based purchasing processes and ensure pricing records are up to date.

Job description

Package: Salary Up to £35,000 per annum (depending on experience)

Hours: Full-time: Monday to Friday – 37.5 hrs per week

We are working with a successful and ever-expanding manufacturing client in the Telford area who have experienced phenomenal growth over the years. Due to this growth, they are now looking to recruit a Buyer, to support the Purchasing Manager in day-to-day Procurement activities of the site.

This role would be suitable for either an experienced Buyer who some solid experience in the full spectrum of procurement, or someone who is maybe either in a Purchasing Assistant / Junior Buyer role now but looking for an opportunity to expand their experience with support, guidance and mentoring. This is a fast-paced, ever developing and forward-thinking organisation which boasts an exciting customer base.

As the Buyer, you will be getting involved in:

• Assist in sourcing and procuring both production and non-production materials and services to keep operations running smoothly
• Analyse demand, generate purchase orders, and track inventory to maintain optimal stock levels in line with company objectives
• Liaise with suppliers to ensure timely deliveries, resolve supply chain issues, and recommend solutions to the Purchasing Manager
• Support tender processes, gather data, assess quotations, and arrange product trials to secure the best terms and conditions
• Lead contract negotiations, assess and onboard new suppliers, and maintain strong supplier relationships
• Assist in developing a structured process to evaluate supplier performance and ensure compliance with purchasing policies
• Keep purchasing databases up to date, manage contracts and pricing records, and provide key insights to internal teams
• Contribute to cost-saving initiatives and play a key role in the successful implementation of ERP based purchasing processes

Skills and Experience:

• Previous experience in working in a purchasing role from within a FMCG manufacturing environment will be essential
• CIPS would advantageous but not essential
• Previous experience of sourcing, negotiating with and managing suppliers
• Good solid understanding of procurement processes and techniques
• Experience in roles such Buyer / Junior Buyer / Purchasing Assistant / Purchasing Coordinator / Materials Buyer / Procurement Executive
