Job summary

Prince Personnel are recruiting on behalf of a manufacturing client for an Assistant Buyer in Shrewsbury/Telford region. The role focuses on building supplier relationships, managing stock and ensuring materials are available to meet production demand.

You will handle purchase orders, negotiate terms and work within an ERP/MRP system. We are seeking candidates with previous buying, procurement or materials planning experience who can thrive in a fast-paced environment and contribute to cost

Qualifications

• Experience in assistant buying, purchasing admin or materials planning.
• Knowledge of ERP/MRP procurement processes.
• Strong communication and supplier relationship skills.
• Experience raising and progressing purchase orders.

Responsibilities

• Manage end-to-end procurement from PO issuance to supplier delivery.
• Monitor open orders and follow up to maintain schedules.
• Develop supplier partnerships and monitor performance.
• Obtain quotations and secure best value in cost and lead times.
• Review stock levels to meet production and customer demand.
• Maintain purchasing data within ERP/MRP system.
• Coordinate material flow with Planning, Production and Warehouse.
• Ensure records and supplier documents are up to date.
• Identify opportunities to reduce costs and improve efficiency.

Assistant Buyer

Permanent

Up to £35,000 per annum depending on experience

Monday - Friday 37.5 hours per week

An established and growing manufacturing business is looking to recruit an Assistant Buyer to join its Purchasing team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with previous buying, procurement, purchasing administration or materials planning experience who is looking to further develop their career within a fast-paced environment.

As the Assistant Buyer, your key responsibilities will include:

• Managing the end-to-end procurement process, from generating purchase orders through to supplier delivery
• Monitoring open orders and proactively following up with suppliers to maintain delivery schedules
• Developing effective supplier partnerships and supporting supplier performance and service levels
• Obtaining quotations and helping secure the best value in terms of cost, quality and lead times
• Reviewing inventory levels and ensuring materials are available to meet production and customer demand
• Maintaining accurate purchasing, stock and supplier data within the ERP/MRP system
• Assisting with forecasting and material planning activities to support business requirements
• Collaborating with Production, Planning, Warehouse and Supply Chain teams to coordinate material flow
• Ensuring purchasing records, contracts and supplier documentation are kept up to date and compliant
• Identifying opportunities to improve purchasing efficiency, reduce costs and strengthen supply chain performance

The Person:

• Previous experience in an Assistant Buyer, Purchasing Assistant, Purchasing Administrator, Procurement Coordinator, Buyer, Materials Planner or Supply Chain role
• Understanding of purchasing, procurement and stock control processes
• Experience of raising and progressing purchase orders within an ERP/MRP system
• Strong communication and supplier relationship management skills
• Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
• Commercially aware with good negotiation skills
• Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Excel and ERP systems
• Experience within manufacturing, engineering, FMCG or a similar fast-paced environment would be advantageous
