The role
As a Buyer – Construction, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. This offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced Buyer to utilise their procurement and contractual expertise in support of construction and capital investment projects.


Day-to-day, you’ll work in closely with the project teams, subcontractor, and wider stakeholders to ensuring contracts are administered effectively, risks are mitigated, and projects are delivered within scope, on time, and within budget.

  • Conduct supplier due diligence, support technical specification preparation, and manage post-tender processes
  • Prepare, issue and review ITTs / RFQ’s and RFI’s
  • Bid evaluations, comparisons and recommendations ensuring to capture Total Cost of Ownership
  • Drafting, reviewing, approving and negotiating contracts
  • Managing complex and high-profile projects to deliver quality procurement solutions, defining delivery strategy, minimising risk and ensuring value for money solution.
  • Interpretation and development of technical data sufficient to prepare scope documents for issue to market.
  • Develop and implement robust sourcing strategies, driving value and minimising total cost of ownership to support capex investment, bid activity and construction projects.
  • Experience and understanding of how the current supply chain is organised and how it is performing commercially by exploring internal and external cost drivers.
  • Defining the supply market; factors impacting the competitiveness and availability of qualified suppliers.

This role is full time, thirty-seven hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with three days in the office/onsite and two days working from home and is based at Rosyth.

Essential experience of the Buyer - Construction

  • Demonstrable experience in managing contract delivery in construction, engineering, capital procurement or manufacturing sectors – Facilities
  • Management (Services) experience is highly desirable
  • Knowledge and Experience of Construction Contract Forms, e.g. NEC, JCT etc.
  • Awareness of CDM (Construction, Design and Management) Regulations
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to liaise with multiple stakeholders, customers, project team and suppliers at all levels
  • Experience in using procurement tools, contract management systems and cost estimating tools.

Qualifications for the Buyer - Construction

  • A recognised degree level qualification and/or relevant engineering/supply chain/lean culture experience.
    Membership of a relevant professional body e.g. CIPS at level 4 or above is advantageous
