Job description

Materials Buyer - Required for our client to join their office based in Harrow. This is a great opportunity for an individual to join a leading construction company in the UK. The successful candidate will be joining a busy team with a really positive and enjoyable office really good working environment.

The role will be as in any Frame / Civils contractor's office dealing with incoming phone calls, talking and negotiating with the supply chain. The Buyer will join at mid-level working underneath the Senior and Head buyer.

Materials Buyer Position Overview
  1. Talking and negotiating with the supply chain
  2. Dealing with supplier invoice queries
  3. Assisting the estimating department when required in obtaining tender rates
  4. Spend some time raising purchase orders for the team in Ireland
  5. Using Coins software to manage material requisitions and cover the ground with the supply chain
  6. Assist in the day-to-day operations of the Central Procurement department
  7. Provision of goods and services within budget on each project and manage invoices
  8. Monitor and record supplier performance
  9. Communicating between site supervisors and suppliers to ensure delivery of goods in a timely manner and within budget on each project
  10. Raise and manage orders
  11. Maintain a good relationship with client and other departments

Materials Buyer Position Requirements
  1. An understanding of the civils side of construction (Desirable not essential)
  2. Knowledge of drainage, ducting and street works
  3. Previous experience in a construction purchasing environment or a merchant background
  4. Understanding and up-to-date knowledge of material and plant hire markets, products and suppliers
  5. Have day to day computer skills and a good telephone manner
  6. Previous experience using SAP
  7. Good commercial awareness and be organised by nature
  8. Ability to work as part of a team and the need to be a team player.
  9. Practical and reliable
