Job summary

SGN is seeking an experienced Buyer to join a newly established Purchasing Team in Glasgow. This 18-month FTC role offers hybrid working and a salary of £40k–£49k per annum, depending on skills and qualifications.

You will manage tactical procurement activities and support Category Managers to drive value across multiple transactions. Key duties include end-to-end sourcing, supplier engagement, and ensuring compliance with contracts and policies.

We are seeking an experienced Buyer to join a newly established Purchasing Team within the Business Service Centre (BSC). The team will play a critical role in managing tactical procurement activity, enabling Procurement & Supply Chain Category Managers to focus on strategic sourcing and high-value commercial opportunities.

The Buyer will support the delivery of commercial value across transactions typically ranging between £10,000 and £50,000, ensuring compliance with procurement policies, existing contracts, and category strategies while providing an excellent service to business stakeholders.

Tactical Procurement & Sourcing

• Manage end-to-end sourcing and buying activities for tactical procurement requirements.
• Lead competitive quotation exercises and mini-competitions using approved frameworks.
• Support stakeholders in achieving best value while maintaining compliance with procurement requirements.
• Utilise procurement systems and sourcing tools, including Fairmarkit and ERP platforms, to deliver efficient sourcing outcomes.

Stakeholder Support

• Act as a trusted procurement advisor to stakeholders across the business.
• Provide guidance on procurement processes, policies, and routes to market.
• Support stakeholders in using framework agreements and approved supplier arrangements.
• Deliver a responsive and customer-focused procurement service.

Contract & Supplier Management

• Support Category Managers with sourcing activity and market engagement where required.
• Identify opportunities to achieve value for money through effective sourcing and contract utilisation.
• Escalate significant commercial, operational, or compliance risks where appropriate.

Compliance & Continuous Improvement

• Review buying activity to ensure compliance with procurement policies and governance requirements.
• Identify opportunities to transition spend into existing contracts and category-managed solutions.
• Support the continuous improvement of procurement processes, guidance, and training materials.
• Support the adoption of strategic category management across the organisation.

Data & Reporting

• Analyse procurement and spend data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
• Support the production of reports, dashboards, and supplier performance information.
• Track savings, cost avoidance, and value delivered.

Success Measures

• Deliver measurable cost savings and cost avoidance.
• Improve compliance with procurement policies, governance requirements, and existing contracts.
• Ensure efficient and timely delivery of tactical sourcing activities.
• Increase stakeholder satisfaction through excellent procurement support and service.
• Identify opportunities to move spend into strategic category-managed contracts and sourcing solutions.

What You Will Need

• Previous experience in procurement, sourcing, purchasing, or supply chain.
• Familiarity with Fairmarkit, Oracle Fusion, or similar procurement platforms/ ERP systems is desirable
• Knowledge of procurement and sourcing processes.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
• Good organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
• Commercial awareness and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
