Job description

AWE is recruiting for a Buyer to support procure to pay activities, from placing orders (Oracle) and expediting, to managing invoice queries.

Please note, this is an 8-month fixed term contract.

Location: RG7 4PR, located between Reading and Basingstoke, with free onsite parking. Plan to relocate to Green Park from October 2025.

Package: £37,910 to £39,000 (depending on your suitability, qualifications, and level of experience).

Working pattern: AWE operates a 9-day working fortnight. We will consider flexible working requests so that your work may fit in with your lifestyle. Just let us know your preferred working pattern on your application.

Let us introduce the role:

As the Buyer, you will be involved in the end-to-end management of purchase orders, including expediting and resolving invoice queries to meet business needs. Processing and management of orders, ensuring orders are receipted on time, and related supplier invoices are paid within payment terms. Your role will entail:

  1. Provide operational support with supplier relationships to ensure on time delivery and payment of invoices.
  2. Manage day to day buying activities, ensuring demands are understood and met with any issues dealt with promptly.
  3. Assist with data collection and validation to support reporting.
  4. Develop and maintain working relationships and awareness within the internal commercial function and external suppliers.

Who are we looking for?

We are seeking individuals with good communication skills, comfortable dealing with stakeholders of all levels, and who can build supplier relationships. Your responsibilities will include:

  1. Planning and prioritising workload.
  2. Proficient with MS Office, including Excel, Outlook and Powerpoint.
  3. Delivering objectives on time, in full.
  4. Accuracy in data entry and attention to detail.
  5. Experience working in a procurement or customer services environment.
