Job description

We are currently looking to recruit an ambitious, driven and highly motivated Fashion Retail Buyer to play their part in driving our business to the next level.

You will be based at our modern purpose-built Head Office in the vibrant city centre of Cardiff. Cardiff is an accessible city with strong transport links, and London is only 2 hours away by train.

The role

As a Buyer, you will assist in developing, sourcing and delivering an on-trend and commercially focused range, whilst driving profit and enhancing the Peacocks brand position. You'll be part of our close-knit Head Office team, making sure our ranges are commercially developed and delivered in line with our brand vision and strategy.

Responsibilities/ Objectives:

  • Plans and builds a commercially balanced range, whilst achieving margin targets as set by the company;
  • Drives regular departmental product reviews, ensuring coordination across departments in terms of trends, looks and colour palettes;
  • Operates an effective and timely product sign-off process, in line with the critical path and planning cycle;
  • Takes ownership of the critical path and ensures deadlines are met with any issues being raised and action plans communicated and implemented;
  • Reviews and analyses sales data, identifying top performing products/lines, ensuring data-driven decisions are made for future lines/intakes and recommendations for improvement are made and presented;
  • Sources, selects and negotiates with suppliers to obtain optimum product, prices and terms of contract, utilizing suppliers’ expertise to improve range and knowledge;
  • Leads meetings at Director/Head of level ensuring effective key information is communicated and any actions are completed within the set timescales;
  • Collaborates with other departments within the company to ensure the successful launch of new product lines/seasonal collections and other company initiatives;
  • Works collaboratively with the merchandising team to monitor and control trade, in order to ensure stock turn, margin targets and profit levels are achieved.

Skills and Experience:

  • Experience within a Fashion Retail Buying role with a commercial mindset;
  • Deep understanding of fabrics, garment construction and the whole buying process with a strong eye for print/pattern;
  • A passion for trends who excels in driving newness in a fast-paced environment;
  • Excellent negotiation skills and the ability to build strong relationships with suppliers;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, building and maintaining effective relationships with both internal and external teams;
  • Proven track record of developing and trading highly commercial fashion ranges that exceed sales/profit targets.
